Did you watch the Tony Awards last night? I did not. “I was watching the basketball finals and that’s why I didn’t watch it, go Marvs!” – Me, unfortunately. “That Dirg Newatsy is way tall and I don’t get why he talks so weird, what score is it?” Anyway, apparently it was a VERY good Tony Awards. The Book of Mormon won everything, Danielle Radcliffe was there, Neil Patrick Harris was a well-liked host. Not that I would have really had any stake in the Tony Awards had I watched it. Because I haven’t seen anything that was nominated for anything. Probably like most people haven’t? The Tony Awards is a very limiting awards show. But I do really WANT to see Book of Mormon. Have you seen it? Did you see anything that was nominated? Did you watch this even if you hadn’t seen anything? Why? For the musical numbers? That would make sense, if you liked that!
In any case, full list of winners here, and some clips after the jump. Also a photo gallery featuring lots of people we like!

The Tony Awards were great. I got all the Broadway for the year in the same amount of time it would take to watch one show. Now I can go back to watching movies.
I didn’t watch either because I was busy having my mind blown by Game of Thrones. Since I’ve never read the books, I did NOT see that coming.
I didn’t watch either because I was busy watching the Miami Heat NOT win the Tony for their revival of “Showboat.”
Also, Game of Thrones on my DVR.
Stay away from the internet today if you don’t want to be spoiled. People are freaking out.
Congrats Trey Parker and Matt Stone, maybe you can use some of those Tonys and make it look like you care about South Park still
(Hugh Jackman pee joke)
I was going to say that this is probably Videogum’s first post mentioning Hugh Jackman without a pee joke. You’re really dropping the ball, Videogum. More pee! Everywhere!
I couldn’t watch the Tony’s because I was at the Glee concert.
And it was amazing!
I would suggest a Videogum Neil Patrick Harris Promise, because he’s clearly the best, but that would take up a lot of our time since he’s also clearly everywhere.
Looks like someone started getting my letters about dressing up like and old timey Princess Leia delivering mail.

Harris was clearly on his game in those clips. What a fantastic opening number (including Shields’ ridiculous inability to remember her three to four lyrics) and the bits from various productions were quality as well. I’d love to see ‘Mormon’ if I could afford the ridiculous ticket prices.
Is Trey Parker & Matt Stone in EGOT territory?
They’re 2/4. Would be 3/4 if not for Disney’s iron grip on the Best Original Song category throughout the 90s.
No Grammy yet? That’s crap.
Anyways, Robin Williams performance of “Blame Canada” at the Oscars was the best performance ever of anything.
I love the Tony Awards, and this one was pretty great. I haven’t seen any of the shows that were nominated because I live in the midwest where everything is awful, but I’m leaving for New York tomorrow morning so that fact will soon change.
I am very sad I cannot run out and see Good People. It’s closed! And I live in NYC, I totally could have seen it! I’m such a loser!
Anyway, have fun, washyadjeffy. Go to Katz’s.
Good People sounded amazing….I’m sad I don’t have time to see The Normal Heart or War Horse.
THANK YOU for the suggestion, my mom and I have been trying to figure out a deli to go to and there are about 50 million different ones to choose from.
Heh, the one caveat is that it is far out of the way from typical tourist activities. But it is the only NYC deli that is truly classic IMO, a century old etc.
I watched the shit out of the Tonys, and I have a question for anyone else who did: (1) Is Frances McDormand OK? She seemed… otherwise.
Let me just say, as a straight man, that Neil Patrick Harris is actually somehow MORE attractive in person than on TV. And tall. He’s a tall guy.
Also, I love Chris Rock. Twenty years ago, who would have thought he’d be on Broadway in an acclaimed (?) play. And he always just seems to really enjoy life and where he’s at. He’s always enthusiastic and seemingly pretty thankful, even when he’s making fun of people. That’s pretty cool for a comedian.
I also like it. I agre that it is one of the best Tony Awards I have ever seen. By the way go and download on http://www.torrentoff.com
I saw Company with my friend Katie who also reads this site (hi, Katie! maybe) and it was really good! I didn’t watch the Tonys, though. I am a bad theatre human, but at least I spell it “theatre”.
Every part of me now regrets not overriding my mother and insisting on seeing Book of Mormon while we were in New York. Damn.
Despite living us both living in California, I have a friend who managed to see Book of Mormon in previews. I told him I hated him and he laughed but then slowly stopped because I was not kidding.
