On Stereogum

Monsters of Folk will top my best of 2009 list. Guess I needed some safe rock n' roll songwriting in these hard economic times.

I'm a Macca fan, but I think one writer (sorry, forgot where) said it best with something like "he looked like he was accepting an award between every song." I cringe at his stage antics. Still, I'm mad that the AT&T live feed stopped after "Here Today".

I've never complained about the content decisions by Stereogum staff...until now. DMB WTF? I didn't like them even before I got into indie rock. What next, a Creed reunion for the next post?

What music journalist started the thing where they name the lead singer of the band, and follow that up with "& Co." (e.g., Bono & Co.), and can I feed some toe jam?

Still love you anyway, stereogum.

That performance was bizarre. Didn't Meg drop out of their last tour due to nerves or something? And then her big come back is playing guitar for the first time in front of TV audience?

And I agree with mitchell - that song doesn't deserve the emotion Jack tries to give it. It's a sweet song, not bittersweet. It'd need another verse for it to be bittersweet.

Am I the only one here who actually listened to Dylan's Tell Tale signs? Give it a shot -- it's better than the albums the songs come from.

Department of Eagles might end up being the most underrated album of the year.

I looked forward to this because they agreed with me last year about The National. But this time they couldn't have gotten in more wrong in my eyes. My God, Sh & Him is a step backwards in music, however cute and enjoyable it is to listen to.

My favorite of the Japense "box cat" as you've dubbed him, is this one:

Wait for when he tries to get a drink of water. Cracks me up every time.

Oh, and thank you for not including Spaghetti Cat.

I don't think biopics are *that* bad. I'd rather see an honest documentary, but I disagree with this:

"Biopics Do Not Add Anything To Art
When biopics deal with an artist, such as Ray Charles, they do absolutely nothing to increase one's appreciation of the artist's work. If anything they're distractions."

Before I saw "Ray", I didn't understand why critics and fans referred to him as "genius". I still don't fully agree, but I certainly do understand because the movie showed me some of his work I was not familiar with. Some with "Walk the Line".
