In reply to the pains of being pure at heart's comment on SPIN's 20 Greatest Albums Of 2009 ... So Far at July 27, 2009 12:47 PM

To the poor guy that believes Spin to be the only print media between Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, that's a shame. First, because you even referenced Rolling Stone as a legitimate source of actual music news/reviews and, more importantly, because you have never read a FILTER, which can be counted on for brilliant writing and phenomenal photography issue in and issue out. And though I'd love to have more issues per year, their unwillingness to sacrifice the quality of the magazine for a few extra appearances on the newsstand is what keeps it so top notch. Someone else mentioned Above The Radar which packed with band profiles. And if you're really A.D.D. and your eyes are gluttons for punishment (and can bear the high-school-yearbook-collage-style layouts on every page) then NME might strike your fancy. They're pretty tough to come by (at least in the midwest), I ended up subscribing (which will set you back about $160/yr), but it was just too much and too manic to keep up with every week. Plus I just couldn't get into the whole "creaming our pants over Pete Doherty" stories every other week. Paste, if you're into "adult rock"/alt country/folk and there's also XLR8R and FADER, if you're into... whatever they're into (I've never been able to decipher who their target audience is).

I don't mean to be professor magazines over here, but thought I'd help you out a bit. Obviously, you're here, so you already have pretty good taste.

Yeah, I was going to ask how long we have to wait until it will be ironic enough to love DMB again.

I'll admit I listened to a ton of dmb in my jr.high-freshman years, but ya know, taste evolves (thank god). But I agree that the dmb-hate is a bit undeserving, they've never tried to be something they're not. It's always been one of those bands that "what you hear is what you get"--no surprises. And that makes them a complete bore to most of us, but some people are completely content to listen to that style. I also agree that DMB coverage is more fit for Rolling Stone, but geez who cares?! Skip over the post if you're uninterested... the appeal of this story is more about it being a human interest piece rather than "omg we're so psyched about this new album!" kind. Relax kids relax. Let's all throw MPP on our turntables and take a deep breath....it'll be ok.

Oh, and to borrow from one of my favorite "Gabe-isms" (kinda):

Mcdonald's should change their motto to, "I'm Bitte-Orca-in' it!" cause that's how much I'm lovin' it!

I am so in love with this album, which is nice cause I haven't had one of those in a while--albums that make my head ah-splode upon first listen. And yes, it is short but you'll make it to the end and just play it again, and not be at all disappointed that you're listening to the same songs again! I thought Silversun Pickups was going to be height of my spring collection, and don't get me wrong--I also loved it, but not like I love this! awesome awesome awesome.

I think I've found the most wonderful loophole in Gabe's "only kill characters" law... we kill this guy* off Flash Forward via actual bullets in prop gun! This would eliminate at least 70% of what's THE WORST in this world!

*for those of you who "totally hate tv", but still inexplicably read videogum--which is something akin to "being on the down low", while you lead your otherwise respectable life with your "intellectual" friends--but don't worry, we'll keep your secret! ...Anyway, this is Seth MacFarworst in his cameo as "FBI Agent" on FF...BULLETS ALL AROUND!

As mentioned by someone a couple weeks ago, I always assumed that you were a girl, 'cause sloths=cute as balls; cute as balls=reminiscent of Lindsay; Lindsay=girl, so sloths=girl? (logic?) But you corrected us, and I guess you're a boy now... I was suspicious, but now that I've witnessed your superior math skillz--I know it's gotta be true! #sexistmisconceptionsgum #convolutedlogic

I second that. I think you need to post that for us forgetful old folk! *pulls crumpled tissue out of her cardigan sleeve to blow her nose--stuffs it back into sleeve* (That's in reference to being old--in case other peoples' grandparents didn't pull that magic-tissue-up-the-sleeve trick. Who could blame them, though, those rose-coloured elastic-waist-ed polyester slacks were flawed for their serious lack of pockets.)

What I'm trying to say is, please refresh my memory of your past avatar, so I can reminisce appropriately. Thank you.

Yeah, I used to hope that Stereogum comments would come around after we all became one big monster family over here, but it's so brutal over there that no one has more than a grouchy one-liner (except for the unfortunate videogummers who leave themselves signed in and forget that comments consisting of more than two sentences is commentsuicidegum). I know stereogum is trafficked like crazy, so there are always a lot more non-registered comments, but I also think people choose not to sign in to save themselves the abuse from an ill-recieved comment.

Where is Scottgum? I want answers--why are your monsters SO MEAN?!? :(
