i read the books and thought they sucked. but i read them all, so i should shut up.
i won't see the movie because i have only recently pulled myself out of a troublingly intense crush on r. pattz and i am a grown woman and need to pull it together.
i don't watch gossip girl.
but i can relate with you because of my secret, alienating-from-the-videogum-fold vice: i really like gwyneth paltrow.
when i heard she was doing a newletter, i subscribed because she's pretty and cute and funny and seems like she'd be fun to be friends with. she'd be my friend who said embarrassingly narrow-minded things, since she's been rich forever, and we'd tease her about it and she'd laugh it off because she's awesome.
and i am alone here.
but i don't care because i have good self-esteem, and i can self-validate.

I don't think they dumbed down the philosophy necessarily (with the exception of everything Comedian related) because it was mostly just transcribed. I just feel like a lot of it, doesn't translate into a film medium. A lot of lines and scenes just seem like plot devices, when in the comic medium they have a helluva lot more poignancy.

i saw it at the Silvercity for the IMAX. I figured if i was going to prepare myself to hate a movie, it should at least be as big and as loud as possible. (in retrospect, i probably didn't need to see an eight foot tall blue penis in high definition.)

let's say you and i were having a friendly little 'making fun of each other's moms' fest. oh, hahaha, your mother is sexually promiscuous! oh, hahahaha, your mother has a weight problem.

perhaps, you might say, 'hey, let's get off of moms, i just got off of yours' as if you had been having sex with my mom. because my mother is sexually promiscuous and also you are a very virile and potent person who has an impressive list of sexual conquests.

what makes it funny is using it out of context, like with the james cameron titanic documentaries, because it doesn't make sense, really, but it does. it also signals an 'in group' identity to those people who are familiar with the witticism's origins.

like when gabe says, 'forget it jake, it's town.'

it's just a funny reuse of something in an unexpected way.

I really liked Good Bad Not Evil and I'm sure I'll buy this album too.
This is the first year I've been interested in music, and Stereogum's been so great at getting me into stuff I'd never be otherwise (High Places, Marnie Stern, Lykke Li). Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Am I the only one who enjoys Twilight? Or likes Kristen Stewart?

Obvs, I read/watch it in a different context than I'd read/watch The Possibility of an Island/The Wire, inasmuch as I recognize that it's silly and has nothing to say about anything I find important and that its target audience is teenage girls. But I really do like it, in the same vein (I think!) that I like Gossip Girl, and it's really confusing to me that many here enjoy that show with its convoluted/ridiculous plots and pretty bad acting and its target audience being teenage girls, but then reflexively dismiss Twilight for being exactly that.

Also! Kristen Stewart is a babe and was pretty good in Adventureland (also surprisingly fun!).

What I'm trying to say is that I'm lonely and insecure and need people to validate my enjoyment of stuff. Does nobody else like this junk?

Okay, this is my first attempt at an entry!
The Kingdom: It was jingoistic and ridiculous, with Saudis at best coming off as Borat-like caricatures. And it has Jamie Foxx. Not even Peter Berg (who brings along Coach Taylor and and Lyla for cameos) who directs or Jason Batemen or Jennifer Garner make this any good.
