The Life of the Mind

On Stereogum

They'll probably collide somewhere in the middle of a videogum post where Gabe is ranting about why someone is the worst.

D'oh ho ho. Well-played, rogue (not well-played).

I still have yet to see a musically sound and logical backing behind any of these "boring" comments. I challenge someone to explain to me in musical terms why this band is boring. Because there is a fundamental difference between music actually being musically bland or boring and it simply being a matter of taste because they're not doing the things you find to be musically aesthetically pleasing.

If it really is a matter of taste, then own up to it and just accept it.

LOOK AT DEM ODOR-ELIMINATING CRYSTALS.

P.S. - All of the "GB are boring" comments and their variants are waaaaaaaaay more boring than GB is.

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC RARARARARARARARAR

Hey guys, can we please declare an official moratorium on any comments containing the words "animal," "collective," "grizzly," and "bear" in any context? YOU'RE TEARING ME APPPPPAAAAAART, STEREOGUM!

On that note, looking forward to the Two Weeks video, though I'm not sure anything can compete with the Knife video. Encyclopedia Pictura ftw.

Like night and fucking day. In Ear Park is a pleasant and interesting album, but it's rather two-dimensional and a little repetitive after a while.

One of the things actually that I really like about this album is that I could actually hear a lot of EARLY Department of Eagles pop sensibility in there (especially on "Southern Point" and "I Live With You"), which is great because The Cold Nose is a really fun album.

I caved in...

...and I feel perfectly fine about it.

It lives up to the hype, plain and simple. The first time I listened through the album, it really just didn't sink in how good it was because there are so many things going on with it. This is such a quantum leap from Yellow House in terms of songcraftmanship and nuance that it really somehow managed to catch me off-guard despite having heard half of the album's tracks already performed live. Front-to-back, every second of this album is packed with utter beauty, creativity, and energy.

I think the one noticable thing that is really going to set this album apart from the rest of the good music out there right now is the fact that I think people ARE going to be talking about this album the rest of the year. I feel like this band has catapulted themselves into the realm of "supergroup," in that it's a collection of 4 absolutely tremendous musicians who are able to bring their collective talents together to create music that is both forward-thinking and incredibly pleasurable.

Normally I would say the "game-changer" monicker is a cliched and contrived way to describe any music that does something new and original. I really do feel that it's spot-on in this case. But I guess the real test will be to ask me again six months from now and see if I feel the same way. I'm optimistic though.

I think I figured out the problem.

Wayne, he isn't declaring victory at the end of his blog posts. That's really his name.

It's okay, you guys. Just a misunderstanding.

Ugh, these imposter posts are making me almost feel bad for liking these bands so much. Stop ruining music for me, you idiots.

Also, I couldn't quite tell from the blog post, but is Ed saying that only those who pre-order the vinyl get a free download coupon? Because I will be crushed if that's the case. I refuse to download the low-quality leak. I want to hear this thing for the first time as the band intended it...even if that means waiting the 3 months. :(

Monster chat is overwhelming sometimes, especially whenever TV discussion comes up, because I really don't watch much (not for any elitist reason. Being at a college where TV's weren't allowed in any rooms other than for movies and videogames kinda took me out of the TV loop for 4 years, and I haven't bothered to get back in.).

That said, it's nice to actually have some casual conversation with you people that isn't just topping each other's one-liners and ZINGS.

I'd be more concerned about all of the furries who are now going to become experts in Hinduism because of this movie.

They're all gonna be like, "My fursona is the reincarnation of the lion god." It also wears a diaper and has a huge penis.
