New Live Britt Daniel - "Who Backs Your Money?"

That's right, Britt Daniel, not Spoon. Through the power of bootlegging, we heard a live take of the strutting new Spoon track "Writing To You In Reverse" as it was performed at the 2008 Pitchfork Fest in July. Last week...  CONTINUE READING NEW LIVE BRITT DANIEL - "WHO BACKS YOUR MONEY?"»

New Live Spoon - "Writing To You In Reverse"

The Pitchfork Festival feels like eons ago, though it was only late July. With the proliferation of summer music fests it can get difficult remembering where you saw which band, so it's nice when some sort of artifact (a good...  CONTINUE READING NEW LIVE SPOON - "WRITING TO YOU IN REVERSE"»

Spoon Cover Paul Simon

In March, Spoon debuted a cover of Paul Simon's "Peace Like A River" for radio contest winners in Annapolis. There is an excellent video of it here. (Add Spoon to the list of indie rock Paul Simon admirers.) Today you...  CONTINUE READING SPOON COVER PAUL SIMON»

The Simpsons: Lisa Turns Her Camera On

Last night's Simpsons was a treat for indie movie and documentary fans (Jim Jarmusch! A Slamdance joke!). Lisa makes a documentary about her family called Capturing The Simpsons (ha) that makes it into Sundance, only to be beaten by Nelson's...  CONTINUE READING THE SIMPSONS: LISA TURNS HER CAMERA ON»

New Spoon Video - "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb"

Continuing today's early theme of animated videos, Spoon's Double Triple & Ryan Junell-directed "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" features a patterned land of floating light bulbs and drums, construction paper lightning, clapping hands (real and fake), a little 'c'mon' and...  CONTINUE READING NEW SPOON VIDEO - "YOU GOT YR CHERRY BOMB"»

Britt Daniel Summons You Into A Black Cab

The folks at the Black Cab Sessions continue to exploit the heretofore untapped acoustic potential of London black cab's back seats with Spoonman Britt Daniel, who give us Fiction's "I Summon You." This follows in the wake of similar sessions...  CONTINUE READING BRITT DANIEL SUMMONS YOU INTO A BLACK CAB»

New Feist - "I Feel It All (Britt From Spoon Remix)"

Feist's "I Feel It All" single comes stacked with a few instances of the ultimate promotional tool: the remix. Fair enough, some of you were getting a little restless at the remix glut after we took a listen to Grizzly Bear's stabs and flourishes at the track, but it's worth noting that Chilly Gonzales and Britt sort of kill it. Gonzales's version is a total track transformation (think sexy, dusky, dancefloor). And as mentioned, Britt adds to the track by cutting stuff away, reforming Leslie's rollicking roots rock tune by sculpting it in his own band's image. The result is as spare and lean as a Spoon track with no guitars necessary: just a taut thwumping bass line, a tambourine, and a rising and ebbing and echoing Feist vocal. Nice job, Britt From Spoon.

New Spoon Video - "Don't You Evah"

We would've thought Keepon's keepin' on would've intimidated Spoon from even trying to top it, but here Portland resident Britt Daniel and his Austinites are, taking an Official stab at a music vid. Funnily enough, it's this touring-and-traveling clip that...  CONTINUE READING NEW SPOON VIDEO - "DON'T YOU EVAH"»

Grizzly Bear And Spoon Remix Feist

Even when Leslie's wielding an explosive stick, it can be difficult remembering she has more tunes than one iPod commercial. This week, though, Arts & Crafts are giving us a reminder (ha) that, yes, Feist can do more than count to four by releasing the "I Feel It All" single with remixes by Britt Daniel, Gonzales, and Grizzly Bear. The former two take on the single, Grizzly do The Reminder's first single "My Moon My Man." So far there's just a clip of the Grizz mix, but 'tis a pretty, flourish-filled clip indeed, my man. Pitchfork Music Festival 2007 [Friday; 7/13] Rating: 8.7

Not The New Spoon Video - "The Ghost Of You Lingers"

Why does everybody think this vid is official? We have our doubts about that, though the hot-fudge melt of the keyboard's ebonies is a fitting image for the excellent single's dysmorphic piano stabbing. Premature Evaluation: Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

The Hunt For The Worst Movie Of All Time: Kangaroo Jack
