Hi dudes, long-time lurker occasional plugger here. Just wanted to get all up in your faces that I’ve been working on some music for a few months and today put up my first music video! I think you guys would like it, which is why I’m shamefully (seriously, I’m crying right now) plugging myself here (I’m not, for example, posting this on the brandy and crokinole slashdot I subscribe to). Hope you enjoy it if you have time to check it out, and thanks everyone for your continuing monstrosity!

Oh man, I definitely spent a few minutes thinking about this before scrolling down to discover the FIRST COMMENT was on the same topic. Glad to hear I’m not alone. Anyway, assuming a binary parent model, the denominator in the fraction will always end in 2, 4, 6 or 8 (i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.), and none of these numbers are divisible by 5, so something is definitely going on here.

Hi everyone! I’ve been mostly lurking since the Days of Lindsay, but I want to get up on my pedestal for a minute here to announce some great news! Obviously, it’s news that concerns me much more than any of you but irregardless.

My sister was nominated for a Grammy! She’s studying cello at McGill University (the Harvard of Canada), and her cello teacher formed an ensemble that plays jazz pieces arranged for anywhere from 4-8 cellos. It’s pretty freaking awesome! They’re nominated for best classical crossover album, and are up against Bobby McFerrin, which is the best part.

If you feel like checking out their album, here’s the iTunes link (hopefully this HTML works):

I haven’t watched my stories yet, but I’m excited about the Paul F. Tompkinness of Community. In the summer I started following him on Twitter because, um, I’m not really sure, I think because John Hodgman always retweets him. I’d never heard of him. Then he came to do a show in Toronto in October, so I bought tickets purely on the basis that he was a person whose name I’d heard of. It was an amazing show. Paul F. Tompkins: highly recommended by Xave. (And I hear episode 2 of the Pod F. Tompkast is in the works!)

Be careful, kid. Tommy Wiseau may seem like a nice guy, but before you know it you’ll be playing football while wearing suits.

It seems that Gabe used the novel strategy of head-tilt-transference, with Danny Glover as the Receiver.

Somehow I get the feeling that if you plopped Armond White down in the “golden age” of film criticism, he’d bitch about it and pine for the days when film reviews could only be carved onto cave walls. Gabe probably remembers it.
