Joseph Gordon-Levitt Presents Jukt Micronics Apparently Joseph Gordon-Levitt is responsible for the first website ever made? It is amazing that no one in his entourage ever thought to take it down. More like 500 Days of Awful, right, you guys?

What, really? We're gonna shit on this guy for earnestly attempting to create a community?

Even if that opening video is not the Best Movie of All Time, I think it's pretty admirable he fronts the cash to host other people's creative pieces.

Im hoping getting money to fund these pieces explains why he was in G.I Joe.

Well, at least I can accidentally click on the page while scrolling and not be bothered with some fucking annoying Coca Cola pop up.

yeah, is the problem that girl talk doesn't make his page load slower?
or that there's content above the fold?
what a loser!

for real. it is really hard for my netbook to load that girltalk banner. and god forbid i should accidentally click on it, then everything starts freaking out. i know gabe's got to put food on his freelance recap writers, but its actually making it difficult for me to visit my favorite website. i will gladly accidentally click on the ad ten times if it didnt make my computer wheeze. also this computer is 1 month old and has no problem with other crazy ad filled websites, like jezebel. and i want everybody to know that i like girl talk and am addicted to diet coke. videogum is free to basically be jayleno.com/infotainment so long as it doesnt crash my computer.

I used to go onto that website like every week after Mysterious Skin came out, because I was a fangirl. Back then it didn't have other people posting stuff, so this is much better than what it was before. Now it's giggles and awkward, but I still respect him.

Have we talked about 500 Days of Summer yet? I liked it. Here's why: it courted the same hipster indie crowd that backlashed against Juno, Garden State, Nick and Norah, etc. But after getting them in the theater, it subtly subverted a lot of the stupid bullshit those movies took seriously.

Example: Leavitt's character falls in love with Zoey Deschanel's character because she likes The Smiths. This is a really stupid reason to fall in love with someone. When I saw this scene in the trailer, I was like please God kill me and everyone else before this movie comes out. But then, turns out, the movie acknowledges this is a really stupid reason to fall in love with someone, both because the relationship fails, and because they have an 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL come right out and say (paraphrase) "just because someone likes the same crap you like does not mean you are meant to be together."

Can that 11-year-old-girl please call the people over at Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, give them that message, and then rape them to death?

Besides that, the movie was fine. It wasn't life-changing and didn't really say anything entirely unique. It was, at times, a little too cute. But most of its conventionality was offset by the fact that the relationship not only fails, but is doomed from the get-go. We don't see that enough in rom-coms, despite the fact that 99% of the relationships that affect us ultimately fail.

Anyway, above average movie. Don't hate.

interesting. it reminds me of this work by Joseph "Regular Joe" Kosuth:

Called ‘One and Three Chairs’, Kosuth raises several questions about the nature of representation (just as JGL is playing with the idea of a record is a record of a record?).
Is the picture ‘less chair’ then the actual chair? Would it even be ‘chair’ without the definition? And for that matter it continues the discussion of “what is art?” that began before Marcel Duchamp’s famous “Fountain.” *spoiler alert: it was a signed urinal.*
conceptual art man. ftw?
.
Also: Loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt's i-just-came-in-my-pants look at the end, though it might have killed the artistic spirit.

mmm, yeah. I need a smoke.

To be fair to him, he admits on the front page that the website looks pretty crappy and then there is a post in the forum where he says they are working on a new improved site. I think it's pretty cool he's invested in making a little community dedicated to showcasing people's creativity. From the looks of it he posts there a lot and contributes stuff too. In the great scheme of celebrity online indulgences this one seems one of the nicer ones imo.
