The Cleveland Show Is Going To Be Even Worse Than We Thought!
Based on the teaser trailer we saw for Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland Show, and the entirety of Seth MacFarlane's output, ever, the show looked really bad. Turns out when you watch a full trailer it looks way, way worse.
Oh wow. So when Seth MacFarlane was faced with developing an entire series around an average American family of black people, he just watched a ton of Tyler Perry movies and did his best to copy that but without giving up any of his trademark Seth MacFarlane brand "humor"? Perfect. Those two together, it's like a science fair volcano of laffs! Or wait, what's the opposite of laffs? Right, barfs. BOOM! RIGHT UP IN YOUR EYES! ("Thanks" for the tip, Kelly.)

yeah. it doesn't matter how often you rail against it. family guy is still funny.

I genuinely don't believe you.

I feel like it's funny if you don't think about it, which is surprisingly easy to do sometimes. But when you DO think about it, all the jokes are random and off-putting.
So....truce?
Score = 10
ohhh why would you LIE TO YOURSELF LIKE THAT?!
you are swimming in a sea of all of the lies.

Yikes. I actually prefer watching whatever Medea movie that's on TBS/Peachtree than this.

Seth MacFarlane is that terrible person at the party who can only start up conversation by quoting popular movies from the past. He's funny for the first hour, but by the end of the night, I want that asshole out of my house.

"Due to the undecided fate of the new series Sit Down, Shut Up, and the cancellation of the long running series King of the Hill, along with the renewal of American Dad!; The Simpsons would be left as the only non-Seth MacFarlane series in FOX's "Animation Domination" Sunday night lineup."
Ugh.

Smarmy voiceover: "Let's just say this family's gonna take some getting used to! Wocka wocka!!!!"
Really? Because I'm pretty used to (hating) the Family Guy, and this family looks exactly like that family if that family was browner.

I never thought I'd have the opportunity to say this: but this both sucks and blows at the same time.

Is that Arianna Huffington as Cleveland Brown's bear neighbor's wife?
I can't believe I just typed that sentence. Ugh.

Family Guy is at least funny about 25% of the time, and if I turn it on late at night I can usually laugh a little and generally not feel the urge to punch something. This, though, is a vast vortex of suck from which no humor will ever escape. Not a single thing in this trailer made me want to watch the show. I can't imagine there was a huge fan demand for this.

Eek. What's with ALL the talking animals? Awful.
As a little trivia, TMZ caught up with the guys who do the voices. Cleveland is done by some fat white guy and his son is done by an equally fat and tall black guy. Saw it a couple of weeks ago.
Hey, you guys heard Futurama is getting renewed by Comedy Central?! Hope it doesn't suck.

family guy was funny when it was new. the first two seasons were inventive and fresh for cartoon comedy. Now it is as dry as my dead grandmothers vagina...and not in a good way.

that baby is CRAZY! did he say "chumps"? what a riot!

I'm not a 'fan' of family guy, but I've had to learn to be able to watch it so I'm not the jerkass crossing his arms bringing down the mood whenever someone else is watching it. Also, my boyfriend LOVES American Dad, so I have to watch that too. Family Guy can be funny if you turn certain parts of your brain off, like the parts that expect good writing, and only pay attention to the joke-a-second pacing and silly voices. But American Dad is harder to watch, because it doesn't even have that same snappy pacing or funny voice acting.
Every line on American Dad falls flat and all the jokes don't seem to be timed or animated properly to be funny. The same jokes, if transposed to Family Guy, would probably be 'funny', but somehow they don't work on American Dad. THIS looks like it has a similar problem. If Stewie said that Jennifer Anniston bit, it might've been funny, but that black baby saying it was not funny and it felt like it went on forever. Now that I think about it, every single joke from every Cleveland clip I've seen is similarly poorly delivered. And it's weird because every single character on all three shows is basically voiced and written by the exact same person.
Anyway. They're all bad. I'm just saying this looks way worse.

i hear you-- it seemed like an outsourced Seth M. cartoon-- i wonder if it was the trailer's scoring, b/c that is a heavy element in these shows...
just curious: what does he watch for you, since you watch those toons for him?

A new form of barely-veiled racism to take us into the next decade! Thanks, FOX!

good thing family guy is only a half hour then?

And to think that we could have been rid of Seth MacFarlane if he hadn't missed his flight on 9/11...I mean, at least something good could have come out of that tragedy!

I actually giggled a little at one line. I immediately felt terrible about myself.

In your FACE, Jennifer Aniston! Now that's hilarity! And that Prince reference?! MacFarlane is all over what America is thinking right now.

Here's hoping it lasts one season, at best.

Sorry, pal.
Somehow, FOX, in all it's fuckin wisdom (read: idiocy) has already picked this pile of shit up FOR A SECOND MINDBLOWING SEASON.
Fuckin bullshit.

Is the last line of this post part of a couplet from "Oops Pow Surprise"?

He certainly does have a formula for this shit, doesn't he.

if only i could trick seth macfarlane into cleaning up all my barf.

Haha, but see, the baby says crazy stuff! Where have you seen a baby say crazy stuff like that before--oh....wait, yeah... Can this guy only create garbage characters in families of five + pet? That's three shows with this damn formula.
Seriously, FOX, You bring back Family Guy but not Futurama? For shit's sake...

(READ IN MEEK VOICE) - I work for this show... And yeah, I don't expect this crowd to like it. However, it is probably, oh, 43 times better than this trailer would have you believe? Maybe even more than 43 times. Really. It's not so bad. I actually like it, and I'm about as skeptical and cynical as the rest of you. I should stop, though, before I get in trouble and lose my job. But really, this trailer -- voiceover ESPECIALLY -- makes it look way way way way worse than it actually is. Please give it an inkling of a chance... What do you say? Who am I kidding, this blog has already made up its mind. I guess I'm a living contradiction as a videogum fan and employee of, as you say, "the worst".

The weird thing about Seth McFarlane is that in the few interviews I've seen with him, he actually seems like an alright guy. He's just not nearly creative enough to be blessed with the success that he has. I don't need to sit through yet another half hour of his "slight variation on the Family Guy formula" shtick if the original itself isn't even that amusing to me anymore. But this isn't your fault! IT'S OK, GUY!

Never thought I'd say this, but Sarah Palin is right. It IS okay, guy. But talk to the people in the promo department, huh? That was like a trailer for "The Cleveland Show: The Movie!"

So, when Matt Groening got a second TV show it was nothing like The Simpsons. Mike Judge's second cartoon was very different to Beavis and Butthead.
For fuck's sake, we already have TWO versions of Family Guy on the air, and we really don't need a third. Sorry. For God's sake do something different MacFarlane, you uncreative bastard.

They're black. Get it?

Watched the half of the first episode of 'The Cleveland Show' (i chose to turn it off) and it was like watching a high school student rip off Family Guy. It was layed out in the same way but everything was an insult to the Family Guy series. It's a bad show, I really didnt enjoy any aspect of it. Even the intro which is basically Family Guy didn't feel like Family Guy it just felt like an unfunny rip off. One poor joke example was when Clevland was bombed out of his bath again, it was out of place and cheaply added.
RATING: 0 out of the largest number you can think off.
