Russell Brand Gets Hair Cut; Commenter Fans Go Wild

thumbnail icon: Russell Brand Gets Hair Cut; Commenter Fans Go Wild

I have nothing against Russell Brand. In fact, the dude often makes me laugh, and he's very brilliantly mastered the art of the internet, Twittering constantly (and much more intelligently than most celebrities) and putting up regular videos of himself being mundanely obnoxious on his website. No, it's Russell's crazy adoring female fans that I don't really get, like the ones who went NUTS when Russell put up a video of himself getting a haircut and showing just the hem of his new knickers. It's clear that Russell is definitely making fun of them, but they fall for it anyway.

Dear Russell Brand's female fans: keep up the adoring (and scary-identical) sycophantic comments, but just know that Russell is laughing at you. (Also, those poor other people! It must be almost like having to eat your lunch at a table with Robin Williams.)

Thanks a lot for the false hopes! I thought he was getting an actual haircut, instead of just the ends.

Some part of me hoped it'd be the end of his "if I wasn't a celebrity, this haircut might be mistaken for mental illness" joke.

Yes, it's funny. I laughed at it the first time he said it. All those other times after that, not so much.

I remember reading something recently where he said some things that amounted to social commentary that I thought were really spot on and funny and I felt I had to change my opinion of him. Then I realized it was Bertrand Russell. (I'm not trying to be cooler-than-thou, this really happened!)

The comments section has become such a wierd mobius strip of irony I can't keep up anymore.
Probably because I'm a 57 year old man.

So you're basically saying he's gotten as far as he has by pandering to females online? Wow, you must think a lot of his intelligence and skill as a comedian.

Hayley was pointing out that people who know a lot about Russell realise he is an attention seeking little kid. Russell admits this and does it regardless of whether people are watching/recording... in this case i do not believe Russell was laughing at his fans. although i'm sure he is aware of his power; that he can pretty much do anything and people will look at it and comment.

i'm actually scared to post this, people can be so harsh on these forums.

It'd be like Robin Williams with a camera. Did you see the one where Russell woke up some guy by hugging him? The poor bloke's still half-asleep and has to deal with a fully-awake Russell, a few others, and a camera recording his reaction. I suppose they're all used to it by now, but I still feel sorry for the guy.

I'm willing to bet the response to that video was something along the lines of a uniform, "I'd like to have you wake me up in bed!" Hence the showing of knickers. It's more the garnering of attention than laughing at them. He's also sending himself up, as usual.

Seriously, though, the man probably has all kinds of microscopic nasties living beneath those undergarments. It's not the most arousing prospect.

Without fans, Russell Brand would have nothing. He loves his fans (he followed his fanclub on twitter which, if you'll look at how many people he follows, isn't a common occurance) and is just doing his job in these videos - making people laugh. Just because he's enjoying himself with his friends and sharing it with his fans doesn't mean he has less respect for them or that he laughs at them - he just wants them to get in on the joke.

Thanks Sophie. You're right. He lets us in on the joke. It's one of his endearing qualities. To the haters, if you've ever seen him with his fans, and looked into his eyes when he speaks to you, you'd know he loves his fans. He doesn't have to do what he does, but he likes to reach out to us. Those fans who have been around for a long time, and even the newer ones, get how sincere he is. Yes, he's a smart guy. He knows he needs his fans in order to become successful, but I think he also really enjoys us too.

If u don't like how Russells fans tweet him fawning ovr him then don't read the tweets, If Russell annoys you, then just ignore his existence. The fact that u have the time in your pathetic life to write a blog about such a mundane matter is alien to me! Russells Russell just how he is. If you don't like it, FUCK OFF
