The Celebrities Are Trying To Tell Us To Change The World
The celebrities whose previous video got us to vote (That's why we voted, right? That's why I voted.) are baaaack! In this four minute video (that isn't the inferior Pepsi one), all of the celebrities pledge to vaguely solve the world's problems, and stop drinking so much bottled water. There's plenty here to ridicule (like, plennnnnty), but today is a special day, and while a PSA that harnesses our obsession with the famous (and, apparently, Jenna Elfman) is a small, trite gesture, it's a better one than The Celebrities usually make. Especially Diddy. So cheers to the celebrities. I will not make fun of you today. (Much):

These celebrities are facing tough challenges, and it's important not to get caught up in the excitement of Jason Bateman's "if it's yellow let it mellow" flushing pledge or Anthony Kiedis's pledge of allegiance to the united funk of funkytown or whatever and forget that there is so much work to do. But as long as Demi Moore keeps her promise to "smile more," it will all be worth it. Did anyone find this... out-of-place? Like, isn't being a good country all about recognizing each others differences and embracing them? As opposed to... amalgamation? But i'm a white canadian, so it's entirely possible i don't know what i'm talking about.

And while I recognize that there is probably some value in celebrities calling attention to important issues, I still hate when they do so. It always comes off as smug, self-righteous douche-baggery, like that jerk you know that won't shut up about the fact that he owns a Prius. We get it, you are better then us! Now let's all move on!

and to think i was worried sick about the wrecked state of the world: the celebrities are going to meet their neighbours! plus: know their names, and give them a smile.
I know, I know, this is a happy day for the USA... but this ad is a bit shallow, no? couldn't they call unknown folks? because those people in the video, well, they are kinda rich, and I didn't hear stuff like "I pleadge to stop using my private jet". to say things like "i pleadge to raise awareness about X cause..." I mean: man, of course, what do you want? a medal for not only talking about your latest movie?
