"The Ballad Of G.I. Joe" Is As Star-Studded As It Is Funny

We're going to need a new name for whatever it is that Funny or Die does. At first it seemed like they were going to be a farming house for funny new viral videos, but that's barely even the case anymore. This hardly counts as a viral video. Don't get me wrong, it is going viral, but that's like when clips from last night's Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien go viral. Even if it's on every website, it's still a clip from a TV show. It's rooted in that medium. I'm not sure why that distinction feels important, but somehow it does. The Internet needs to protect its neck. This video stars Alexis Bledel, Billy Crudup, Zach Galifiankais, Tony Hale, Vinnie Jones, Joey Kern, Chuck Liddell, Julianne Moore, Henry Rollins, Alan Tudyk, Olivia Wilde, and Sgt. Slaughter? And it's just some goofy throwaway song about G.I. Joe? Somehow that hardly seems fair. The dudes from Smosh are like "hey, no fair!"

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

Not only is this not funny, its pathetic. Music isn't supposed to be funny... so it never really is. Its just an irritant. I can think of tons of music that is better than this. This is meager at best.

"Music isn't supposed to be funny..." Who came up with that terrible rule? I guess nobody told WEIRD AL or RICHARD CHEESE, and yes, those are the very best examples of funny music that anyone could think of ever.

Richard Cheese's "Rape Me" is one of my favorite covers.

It doesn't necessarily even have to be parody to be funny. Man Man, Zappa, Mr. Bungle all have quirky, funny material. Paul Simon's lyrics are often witty. Nick Lowe has some great sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek songs. Ween borders on parody at times, but also have impressive musicianship.
Music doesn't have to be serious, sad, or angry to be good -- you're missing out on a lot of great songs if you limit yourself like that.

Shhh! CMHWYL has spoken. He (she?) is an expert on what is good, and everyone has to like and dislike the things that he (I think it's a he) likes and dislikes. That is the way it works, doy.

like this... they lie... to everybody, They are not themselves anymore, their poetry has been lost. Your poetry has been lost too. You exist as a metaphor for the loss of the feeling of validity and nonchalantlessness.

No you may not. Tenacious D is probably the weakest music capable of being created. You are not only stupid, but you obviously don't like actually funny things either. And to the rest of you... you are pretty much weaker than I originally thought. You have been betrayed by the tiny tunnells running between your heart and your brain... they are canals of bold red lies to your self and selfhood. You should be ashamed of your soul-lessness.

Believe in yourselves, and the cynicism that you sputter will become fresher than farm fresh butter. Hold your hearts true and the brake lights of life with deliver your ghosts to a faceless plain of unabashed beauty and completeness.

when I was 9 or 10 I really loved GI Joe. That was 17 years ago. I don't remember anything about GI Joes now. I guess my point is that this isn't funny to somebody who knows nothing about GI Joes. Is it funny to somebody who does?

This wasn't funny at all. This was so unfunny it prompted me to post my first internet comment ever to share my thoughts about how unfunny I personally thought this was.
How is Julianne Moore in this? What do these filmmakers have on Julianne Moore?
Pictures of her having sex with animals? Why is Julianne Moore having sex with animals?

Weird Al is spinning in his grave right now.

I hope the guys who made the GI Joe film see this and realize their casting flaws. Henry Rollins as Duke and Zach Galifiankais as Snow Job are so utterly perfect that it's surreal.
