Kids Make Amazing Videos Starring Their Dolls Singing About Burritos The Darndest Things

thumbnail icon: Kids Make Amazing Videos Starring Their Dolls Singing About Burritos The Darndest Things

Thousands of young Americans enter film school every year with the hope of making the next Citizen Kane (but this time, "Rosebud" is a pair of rollerblades!). Most of them, of course, won't succeed as directors, and will eventually find themselves moving on to more reliable work in other fields, or toiling in the belly of the entertainment industry, or writing a pop culture blog. So it must be discouraging to these hopeful and ambitious young artists to realize that this little girl, with nothing more than a video camera, a couple of American Girl dolls, and a song about the best burrito she has ever had, just created something better than anything they will ever do in their entire frustrated and unsatisfying lives.

Seriously, if I could marry this video, I would. But it's not legal. Thanks a lot, MAINE. (Via Julie Klausner.)

I love the twist ending. They're all excited about their delicious burritos, but then we see their friend who doesn't even LIKE them? She likes pizza? Give this kid a junior Oscar.

Man. This is the best. One time I was hanging with my twin nieces (4 and 3 quarters at the time) and they asked me what I was having for lunch. I said "Burrito" and they thought it was the funniest word in the world.

Since then, "Burritos?! Hahhahhha" is how I say Burritos.

Do they give the new homeless American Girl doll their burrito leftovers on the subway? When they feel guilty but not guilty enough to give change?

this is great, don't get me wrong, but i would have preferred a de-emphasized "t" in the last "burritos".

Encouraged by her early runaway internet success, the creator of this video eventually grows up to be a film student herself, where she trades in her youthful, exuberant sense of humor for a grim portrayal of an American Girl Doll who struggles with her burrito addiction and resulting body image issues and her secret, forbidden love affair with her rebellious, free-spirited friend Emily. (Because drama) And also: she's homeless and contemplating suicide. But really, it's all a metaphor for the disillusionment of our modern consumerist culture. And it all turns out to be a dream. But there is this one AMAZING tracking shot that follows the "American Girl" (metaphor) up the basement, through the kitchen, and into the bathroom of this dollhouse where she stares at herself in the mirror because it's totally a metaphor and everything is done in one shot!

A couple of nights ago, I had a dream that I called someone a neden-hole and it made them cry. Which was awesome, because it's someone that I don't like. But then I woke up with the word "neden-hole" rolling around in my head. So, for like the last two days I've been secretly appending "You neden-hole" onto the end of every sucky conversation that I've had. Not out loud, just in my mind, but still. It's terrible. Juggalo? Jugga-no.

But then I saw this video, and somehow it managed to cut through all the facepaint and the Faygo, straight into the Dark Carnival of my soul, and now, instead of calling people neden-holes in my brain, I just sing "This is the burr-i-to I've ever eaten... yum yum yum!" And I say this without any trace of irony-- I feel so much more awesome. Well done, magical small child. Well done.

I've got to say, I'm a little less impressed with this video now that I know the kid didn't write the song. It's by Parry Grip (Parry Grip?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--bqFOdb6_g

While that did give me a bit of the :(s, that song didn't have anything about Emily, which is arguably the most genius part of this video.

Is it weird that I immediately recognized that girl's voice as being the narrator of "Kittens Inspired by Kittens"? Probably. I guess that's the price I pay for doing nothing better with my life than watching internet videos all day, every day.

Stuff like this makes me really glad I didn't have access to a camera and the Internet as a child.

It also comforts me that I'm not alone in my random songs. Just yesterday I was in the kitchen singing to my dog that, "I'm making a peanut butter sandwich in my underwear, and I don't care I'm in my underwear!"

However, this video was made by a child (genius!) and I'm supposedly a functioning adult (not a genius!)
