Okay, The "Crazy Office Guy" Video WAS Viral Marketing

thumbnail icon: Okay, The "Crazy Office Guy" Video WAS Viral Marketing

And I guess viral marketing has "gotten totally out of control," because that very viral video of a Russian guy going crazy in an office from last week was, apparently, marketing for the movie Wanted. From Cinematical:

it was all a sly bit of viral marketing from Timur Bekmambetov for Wanted. He revealed the stunt over on his personal blog, where he allegedly had a good laugh at the gullibility of the West.

The blog is in Russian, and Bekmanbetov claims that the reason he made this video to market Wanted was because Wanted is "about escaping everyday life." With that kind of extremely tenuous connection (aren't all movies about that?), what's to stop movie directors from claiming any old mysterious video as viral marketing for their film? Or any company for their product?

That shit is still really messed up. If someone out there copycats this in real life, we know who to blame: Angelina Jolie.

What a LONG way to go to promote a movie by way of something seemingly so unconnected. Proof that it doesn't pay to be Russian.

Who fell for this? None of the monitors he tossed around were connected to anything!
