The Princess Bride: The Video Game

thumbnail icon: The Princess Bride: The Video Game

Hey, there's going to be a Princess Bride downloadable video game this summer! From the press release:

In order to live happily ever after, would-be heroes will have to help the Princess and her True Love defeat dastardly villains, survive the Fire Swamp, concoct miracle remedies, and vanquish the evil prince. Along the way, players will take on the roles of and interact with a cast of beloved Princess Bride characters including Buttercup, Westley, Inigo, Fezzik, Vizzini and Miracle Max.

I'm not personally into videogames, but I am into The Princess Bride, which is why I found the second part of the press release (and its main point) to be slightly amusing:

ACIDplanet.com has just launched a contest that allows users to remix the title track from The Princess Bride. The winning entry will be selected by the producers of the game and will be featured on http://www.PrincessBrideGame.com as an exclusive world premiere this summer!

I'm sure that when they say "The title track from The Princess Bride," they don't mean the movie's theme by Mark Knopfler, "Once Upon a Time...Storybook Love," which goes like this:

My love is like a storybook story. But it's as real as the feelings I feel. My love is like a storybook story. But it's as real as the feelings I feel; it's as real as the feelings I feel.

(Not very videogame-y, right?) Here's the trailer for the game:

You can enter the contest to remix the trailer here -- I love, true love this movie so much I'm considering entering, for real.

I'll give the developers this: they are pretty savvy as to what the kids like these days, with their "Frank Fairey" and their "Andre the Giant Posse."
This is from their blog:

Let's bastardize one of the last remnants of American cinematic purity.

What's next? A 'Willow' game for X-Box???
I quit.
