There Is A Movie About A Special Needs Martial Artist, And It Looks Great

thumbnail icon: There Is A Movie About A Special Needs Martial Artist, And It Looks Great

There is a new martial arts movie coming out in select theaters this Friday, and on DVD February 10th, called Chocolate, from the director of Ong Bak. It features the trademark flying elbows and roundhouse knees of any Muay Thai adventure, but this time it's a lady! And who said women couldn't jump through the air and land on your shoulders and deliver spine-crushing blows to the top of your skull just as good as any man.

The one thing about Chocolate, though, is that the main character? The girl who is so good at destroying everyone? Is supposed to be special needs. Hmmm. Well, FAIR ENOUGH. If the Real World is ready for a transgendered roommate, surely Tony Jaa fans are ready to accept that an autistic girl could win all the fights.

Trailer after the jump, you guys.

To be fair, they probably could have done without the "a special needs girl...with a special need...TO KICK SOME ASS!" tagline. One step forward two steps back, kind of. The problem is I'm going to be too busy loving this movie to come to your protest. Good luck!

I used to coach swimmers for the Special Olympics and you would be surprised by how fiercely some of them can compete. Hopefully this movie is just. And she doesn't fall in love with a father figure. God I hate that.

There's a fight between her, and a guy with tourettes doing capoeira . The movie isn't as great as you'd think! Believe me, I thought I'd love it as much as you! The subtitles are rather incredible, though. SO BAD.

More like one step forward, twelve steps forwarder. Tagline of the century.
