Nine: The Most Expensive Chanel #5 Commercial Ever

thumbnail icon: Nine: The Most Expensive Chanel #5 Commercial Ever

The trailer for Rob Marshall's movie adaptation of the loosely-based-on-Fellini musical Nine, starring Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruise, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson (???) and Daniel Day-Lewis hit the internet today, to which the internet responded with a collective, not-unlikely: "Nine to next year's Oscars: I got this." As fun as it is to ponder Penelope Cruz's limber-leg trick, I can't wait for this 3-hour nap. (It actually doesn't look bad...for a musical.):

Here's a true fact: if you liked Chicago, you'll probably like Nine! (And also: Kate Hudson? Was Katherine Heigl busy?)

"to which the internet responded with a collective, not-unlikely: "Nine to next year's Oscars: Shit, we made this one year too late, we're gonna lose to The Road."

Hopefully, I fixed that for you. It doesn't look horrible (mainly because I love DDL) but as a male I'm probably going to skip this one.

Just show me pictures of all the fratboys lining up for the Mamma Mia! / Chicago double feature, and I'll believe it.

I went with my girlfriend to my college's production of this play. It was pretty entertaining. Considering I've had to watch Mamma Mia, Phantom, Across the Universe, Rent, Hairspray in the last year, I'd say this was probably the best. The girls will have to be hot, if nothing else.

Sweeney Todd was a very good movie though.

This movie is pretty much a checklist of everything I love. I think Garry Marshall is trying to seduce me. Fellini already did years ago.

YUM. I am going to NOM this movie like a motherfucker.

psst...it's from ROB Marshall. Not Garry. Garry is of "Happy Days" fame. Rob is the trick responsible for Chicago. Which, incidentally, I hated. Although that might just have been an allergic reaction to Renee Zellweger. Anyway, Nine looks pretty good, but that might just be a side effect of Daniel Day-Lewis. Here's hoping!

I changed it right away! But still: caught.I blame a secret wish on my part for a musical version of Pretty Woman.

At some point, we are going to have to acknowledge the 100lb Meth Elephant in the room: Fergie.

I'm just gonna throw this out there now so that everyone knows where I stand WAYYY ahead of time:

If you go see "Nine" in theatres and you have not yet taken the time to see "8 1/2," you probably deserve to die.

So I didn't read the description, and I was watching this all "what is this, a musical 8 1/2???"

Oh dear :\

So is our generation's Claudia Cardinale Nicole Kidman or Kate Hudson? Either way: :(

I guess I'll either love this or hate it. But really. . .why even touch 8 1/2?

It's okay guys, Fergie is playing a prostitute. In flashbacks. Her casting is pretty much perfect. It's like, "Hey everyone, remember that whore Fergie?"

I lurved Chicago. I'm probably gonna live this too. It might (MIGHT) even make me feel bad for making fun of Fergie so many times.

Wait, so we're going to have 9 and Nine out in theaters in the same season?

That would be an awkward slipup, although it'd be easy to see both on one ticket. "I went to see a movie called Nine, I assumed this was it!"

Each time they showed Daniel-Day Lewis in the trailer, I kept thinking, Oh, Tim Roth is in this too?

Also, I agree with Nick up there on the 8 1/2 non-seers death-desserts. I'd rather this get made than someone try to do a remake of 8 1/2.

Look how many actors DDL has to carry on his back in this movie. I don't know if he can do it.

Guys, Kate Hudson really is talented. I know the past decade has been increasingly bad, but remember Amost Famous? Or 200 Cigarettes?

What do you mean, you don't remember 200 Cigarettes?

Paul Rudd was in that, right? Because I think I'm required by law to remember every movie he's ever done.

Woah I can't believe you chose to be mean about poor Kate Hudson (Penny Lane!) and not the Meth Tranny! Either way, this movie looks really good, but I may also be blinded by DDL, man he's the shit.
