New Trailer For 1990s Period Film Battle In Seattle

Battle In Seattle, out Semptember 19, takes place during the riots at the World Trade Organization's 1999 meeting in Seattle. Andre Benjamin, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Rodriquez, Charlize Theron, and Ray Liotta star as clashing peaceful activists, violent activists, and cops. Charlize Theron seems too glamorous to play an Adbusters-subscribing anti-globalization activist, but her boyfriend Stuart Townsend directed the movie:

I think this movie looks interesting, though maybe a little over-dramatic, but I do know that if I see it I will laugh out loud if I have to take anyone screaming while wearing colorful butterfly wings seriously.

No way i'm watching some dramatization of a futile protest that gave a bunch of rich kids a super flimsy excuse to break shit and get their Smug Scouts tear gas badge.

Yeah. I guess I thought I'd be nice, but like I'm seeing any movie that isn't a comedy or a documentary.

I was there actually, as one of the high school kids who skipped school to go protest something for the sake of principles I though I "believed" in.

This is the thing. It really wasn't that violent or noteworthy. It was spun nationally that way but the reality was pretty boring. The big tear gas incident was due to police over reacting (they accidentally gassed a bunch of outdoor diners on capital hill when a very small unlicensed march began). I did see 1 dumpster on fire. There was 1 tear gassing incident during the actual march (which was debatedley another over reaction by the police). A starbucks window and a reebok store window were broken in. Considering that there were a gajillion people in Seattle (which is SMALL), that's pretty tame damage. It definitely wasn't anything I would classify as a riot.. or even really much of a battle.

Basically the people writing and dramatizing this are probably liars and like to revise history because it honestly wasn't exciting enough to make a movie.
