In The Loop Looks In The Great

In the Loop trailer, you guys:

They showed this trailer ahead of Bruno when I saw it in Seattle (jealous?) last weekend, and it looks really good. It's like Dr. Strangelove meets The Queen meets James Gandolfini.

Q: Would this trailer be as compelling if it did not have James Gandolfini in it?
A: No.

But he is in it, so that question is pointless. Anyway, it's been awhile since we've had a good "I've been to college and know about stuff" comedy. They seem to only make those about divorce and dinner parties lately (always?) and they're the worst. More light-hearted explorations of war please.

"War is hilarious."

this film is the best. as opposed to being the worst. totally at the other end of the spectrum.

Also, isn't that the same sped up music from A Clockwork Orange?
That was the best cast introduction since The Ten trailer.

Saw it when I was in Ol' Blighty. Surprisingly good, especially since I went in thinking it would be S star star T.

These kinds of jokes only seem to work with British accents.

I, for one, certainly have no clue where Gandolfini's balls have been.

If you do a little peeking around you'll find that there's already a torrent for In The Loop. I've seen it and I thought it was OK but it's nowhere near as good as Rotten Tomatoes is making it out to be....

I saw it too, the stuff where they go to America (the stuff with Gandolfini in it) is not half as funny as the stuff back in Britain.
It's Capaldi's show, not his.

Agreed - Peter Capaldi steals every scene he's in. Also: while this film was good in the theater, I will definitely benefit from a second DVD screening with subtitles. Goddamn Brits need to learn to speak American.

Holy Shit. Gabe was in Seattle? I missed my one chance to get him to come over and watch bad TV with me. My fantasies are lame.

I'm really surprised this got a trailer spot before a bruno screening in the US. The plot of this movie is largely satirizing the Blair government's spin and PR bullying culture and all the pathetic shortcomings of the British political system as we went to war in Iraq.

Sure, it's got a funny Scottish guy making threats about a lubricated horse cock but basically, it has so many in-jokes about British politics and I just wouldn't expect this movie to translate to American audiences?
