If You See Only One Documentary About Terrible Dolphin Murder This Year...

The Cove is a documentary about Richard O'Barry, who trained dolphins for the TV show Flipper and has now become an activist for dolphin rights, or whatever. He travels to Japan and uncovers some pretty fucking dismal stuff about dolphin hunting practices over there. This is the hunting wolves from airplanes of 2009. Trailer, you guys:

Hayden Panettiere! There she is! The whole time I was watching this riveting trailer for what looks like a riveting documentary, (seriously*), I was like, "where is Hayden Panettiere in all of this?" She's on her surfboard. Wave hello, Hayden! Maybe we can get Jessica Alba to go out there and glue some posters to the dolphins' faces, you know, to get the word out.

I JOKE TO STOP THE TEARS.

*Seriously, this movie looks great. Or whatever a more appropriate word might be, since "great" doesn't seem to take into account the movie's obvious grimness. In any case, I'm sorry. For everything.

"A CROSS BETWEEN 'FLIPPER' AND THE 'THE BOURNE IDENTITY'."

Peter Travers needs to go fuck himself.

I love when critics compare documentaries to fictional action/thrillers. "like the Bourne Ultimatum"... except this actually happened, and is still happening.

I've seen Peter Travers name associated with Rolling Stone many times (because he writes reviews for them, artard), but seriously, "A cross between 'Flipper' and 'The Bourne Identity'"? Being too original is not original. It's horrible. How about you save us the suspense and write, "A really good fucking documentary about dolphins"?

Nature's greatest deception? Really? Sure you don't wanna go with chameleons or slow loris poison elbows or something.
Also, Japan, sometimes I don't get you. I mean so many things about you are so :) like Iron Chef and Boris, but then you do lots of :( things like eat all kinds of endangered animals.

Shut up white man. I really hate the sense of entitlement that old white men have about going into other people's countries and telling them what they can and can't do.

Yes, I'm looking at you too, shitty Animal Planet Greenpeace "documentary" series.

It's actually westerners that sustain this practice. Regardless of the cruelty and unsustainability of drive hunts, it is the lucrative captive industry that now fuels the need for this ridiculous slaughter. The young, un-scarred dolphins are sold to marine parks and swim-with-dolphin programs. Many Japanese fishermen have admitted that they would not continue the drive fisheries if it were not for the high prices offered by the captivity industry for wild dolphins.
And ending this practice would hardly devastate an entire economy, probably less than 100 fishermen make their living doing this.

I love how you talk about a sense of entitlement, but start of with "Shut up white man" because your opinion is more important than anyone else and you're entitled to be heard.

listen i'm all as torn up as any other about the dolphins being plucked from underneath weeping surfers' visages's' just to be used as contaminated lunchmeat, but WHATS WITH THE GUY AND HIS SURGICAL MASK?! THAT THINKS PEOPLE ARE FOLLOWING HIM. do you think his paranoia might pervade his film a lil'? and i can't believe everyone is all afraid of the yelling guy when clearly he has just spent so much time lassoing dolphins that he has become one and wants a yummy yummy fishy yes he does who wants a yummy fishy?(1:10)
by the way i love dolphins (except when they gang rape other dolphins) (sorry if i just blew your mind on which side to be on)

yes it happens:
teenage gang rape by dolphins, dolphin-on-porpoise murder (ha ha on porpoise--ugh), which is linked to dolphin infanticide, which is found among many mammals including US. so just round up some random humans-- you might catch a rapist! /sarcasm
unfortunately the above is probably true-- now i'm sad.

who the hell can eat dolphins...i mean it's a murder...killing a dolphin it's as bad as killing a person, even worse since dolphins are wonderful and peaceful creatures and humans are disgusting. they cheat, they lie, they use other persons...it's just awful. and it's not just dolphins, other endangered animals too. The tigers(tough i don't know of tiger-eaters), rhinos, elephants, whales, big white sharks and hundreds of other amazing and wonderful creatures are killed every single day. in my opinion this people should be at least imprisoned for life. Or worse...they should end up in some kind of switching places where they are slaughtered and the animals just laugh at them and cut parts of their bodies while still alive. I will protect animals in every single day of my life as a marine biologist and an echologist
