I Am Milk Trailer

Milk is the new film from Gus Van Sant about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to public office as a city supervisor in San Francisco. He was also murdered (natch, America is #1!) by a fellow city supervisor (un-natch, WHUUUT?). Trailer, you guys:

I like Gus Van Sant and I think that this movie looks interesting and that Harvey Milk's story is one that definitely deserves to actually be told (sorry, Ray. You are bullshit) but I can't shake the painful and distracting echoes of I Am Sam in Sean Penn's performance. He likes to hear the homosexual community read, because it makes him happy, it makes him happy when the homosexual community reads. Yikes. He should win some kind of lifetime achievement Oscar for all the hard work he's done trying to get one. A Special Oscar if you will.

Scott

This movie should win an award for unflattering period hairstyles.

Is the Dan White trial part of the film?

I wouldn't even see this celluloid monstrosity if Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather gave it two snaps up. I can't wait for thirty years from now when the Republicans start making outsider art about how hard it was to be hated. That's full circle like a Terry Silver roundhouse kick.

I think this echoes "All the King's Men" more than "I am Sam"

at least Brolin looks tough

Right, because Ray Charles' story didn't deserve to be told. More baseless douchebaggery from Gabe!

gabe has a point, in that i can guarantee you that there were more people who knew about ray charles and at least a small amount of his life story (pre-'ray') than there are people who currently know about harvey milk and dan white and the twinkie defense...who aren't from the san francisco bay area.

unless that wasn't gabe' point.

Isn't this the case that raised the now legendary "Twinkie Defense"?
