All About Steve, Or There's Something Crazy About Mary

The trailer for All About Steve, starring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper, you guys:

Now, on the one hand, I want to celebrate this movie because it has a complicated female heroine, and we get maybe one of those every ten years. But why does she have to be, like, a mentally challenged stalker? Is that what they're hoping we'll relate to? The trailer makes it clear that Bradley Cooper eventually learns to love the "eccentric" Mary, and then she falls into a hole in the ground. Right. This movie looks weird.

I don't think I've ever heard that Sara Borealis song in something that wasn't a rom-com trailer or a commercial for an itunes knock-off

They're purposely making her look bad in this to make her "harder to love" or something, right? Cuz YEEEESH.

I'm mostly just really confused why the title seems to be a reference to "All About Eve," which this seems to have absolutely no thematic relationship to.

Thank you. That distracted me throughout my viewing of the trailer. Is the real plot of this film that Sandra Bullock is a disingenuous, manipulative liar who doesn't want Bradley Cooper's love, but rather his position as a high-powered weatherman?

Also, Bradley Cooper is finally becoming a movie star. Good for him.

It's no accident that Keith David is the most entertaining thing in this entire trailer. He could co-star in a Spencer Pratt vehicle about the pitfalls of minor celebrity and make it worth watching. Give this man work, people!

My sentiments exactly. Requiem for a Dream was forever years ago, and he still creeps me out. A lot.

My parents borrowed my copy of Requiem about a year ago. My mom handed it back to me the next day with a concerned look on her face and walked away.

I actually watched it with my mom once. I was living at home at the time and was trying to convince her that going into film was at all a good idea, so she was pretty open to the stuff I was into. I think that's the exact moment when she started turning down my suggestions for movie night, or at least it was the tipping point. The other day I asked if she'd like me to send her my new script, and was met with the telephone equivalent of a nervous shrug ("Oh you don't need to. I know you're busy"). I blame it all on Aronofsky (and of course, Keith David).

I'm surprised she has straight hair. Usually the 'quirky' girl in these movies has curly hair. That's about all the thought I'm going to give to this movie.

um. her reaction to steve and steve's neatly cropped and frosted hair is: he's so not gay? i say this with no malice: i honestly thought the twist was that he was gay. like, obviously gay. and the comedy sprung from her obliviousness? me so confused.

Great, Pavlov made a movie. Next time we hear a little "ding", we'll have an overwhelming urge to not laugh. At all. Not even at Thomas Haden Church.

I have nothing against Sandra Bullock. Nothing at all. Really. But the question needs to be asked: Are these romantic comedy leading roles really age appropriate for her?

you've all made excellent points against seeing this film, but lord knows, come (whenever) I will end up in a theatre watching this movie and secretly hoping that if I can channel just enough "free spirit", Bradley Cooper will smile his way into my life. (minus the hair... that's terrible hair)

Lindsay, you're on whatever drugs make you be really undeservingly nice to things. This movie looks downright awful. Complicated female heroine? Because she wears quirky galoshes? No.
And the soundtrack, paired with that trailer guy's smug voice, makes me want to jump into a mine.

I think the phrase "in comparison with every other female lead in rom-coms" should follow "complicated", to be fair. And "in comparison" ought to be italicised AND bolded. Perhaps even in uppercase (or is that going too far?).

For Bradley Cooper's sake I hope this is one of those "Funny People" fake trailers... the movie guy voice over, sara barellis, B. Coop and Sandra B's HAIR!! It is a parade of rom-com cliche nightmares. Bradley Cooper says, "Yo Teach!?" please???
