Videogum's Teen Korner: Too Many "Sad" Stories

thumbnail: Videogum's Teen Korner: Too Many "Sad" Stories

No diggity! You got to bag it up!

Cool dudes and neat chicks who are all unique snowflakes, I know that more than budding young men and women we're all just human beings on this planet who are 100 percent equal always, but today I need to keep it real just with the ladies, is that cool, fellas? You know you're my homedogs, fellas! No sweat, Sherlock! But today I have something that I need to keep it real about with the young ladies in the hizouse. Oh snap!

Girls. Sorry, young women! I know that life is confusing right now. You're going through mad changes in your body that are so wack. And with everyone always telling you what to do, it can be hard to discover who you really are. Diet Jamba Juice. But, I just want you to know that it's going to be OK! You're going to get through this transition period in your life and even though I know it doesn't feel like it right now, when it's all over, you're going to be like Sasha Fierce! You might even have a baby!

The point is, I've seen your COMPLETELY INSANE text-based narrative YouTube videos (after the jump) set to weepy Strip Mall Lillith Fair 2.0 music telling "sad stories" about "guys and girls" and they are really hilarious to adults, but obviously really serious and IMPORTANT to you, and I'm just saying that's cool. But one day you will look back on these INTENSELY RIDICULOUS videos and you will think "if only I could go back to that scared and confused little girl and tell her that one day she would have a job that she hated in an office that sucked the life from her, and a relationship that was a lot more work than she sometimes thought it was worth."

Scrunchies!

Shane Lee Believes In Miracles

Is Shane Lee mentally disturbed? Possibly. Is Shane Lee medicated? He might be! At the very least, one can imagine a situation in which Shane Lee requires medication, whether or not he is receiving any. But why does that matter at this point? We live in a weird world now. Deeply troubled individuals have access to all of the tools they need to broadcast their personal fearscapes to the world, and they're using those tools. A lot. As someone who spends most of their time watching YouTubes of people at their darkest moments, it has become absolutely necessary to determine the line at which laughter at uncomfortable displays of abnormal behavior is allowed, and I think there are two general requirements:

1) the subject (or object?) in question must be of human adult age
2) the subject must have posted the video themselves, with the intent of people seeing it

Also: laughter isn't mean-spirited! Why am I being such an old man about this? I just feel weird! It's Eli Porter all over again. We need to struggle with this stuff! But man, Shane Lee: best dude in the game. Another Shane Lee classic after the jump:

Going Down The Ricky Tic Rabbit Hole

thumbnail: Going Down The Ricky Tic Rabbit Hole

Henry Darger was a janitor in Chicago for most of his life, and died poor and unknown in 1973 at the age of 81. After he died, in the small room that he rented, his life's work was discovered: a 15,000 page fantasy novel describing a war between little girls and an army of soldiers, as well as numerous paintings depicting scenes from the novel. The paintings often feature tornadoes, and many of the little girls have penises because Henry Darger had, supposedly, never seen a naked woman and did not know that there was any anatomical difference. Posthumously, Henry Darger, who suffered from mental illness, duh, has become a figurehead for Outsider Art, and his paintings are shown all over the world.

It is still too early to determine who on YouTube will be the on-line video equivalent of Henry Darger, but Ricky Tic is certainly a promising candidate!

Dan Quinn Has Got Big Plans

thumbnail: Dan Quinn Has Got Big Plans

On a day like today, with all that is going on in the world, you start to think about the future. I'm talking, of course, about how Michael Jackson died, RIP Michael Jackson, and also about the :( changes that are happening here at Videogum. Two very important, very personal reminders of how nothing stays the same. We are all mortal, and we are all subject to the influences of powers beyond our control. It's important to always keep an eye on the next step, you just have to. Never get complacent. Never let down.

Dan Quinn knows what I'm talking about. He's not a billionaire yet, but when he is a billionaire, and he will definitely be a billionaire, he knows what he's going to do.

Heaven Didn't Just Get A Little More Miley Cyrus

Someone hacked Miley Cyrus's YouTube account this weekend and posted this video. You know, as a goof.

PRANKS! Yuck. If this is proof of anything, it's that pranks are the worst. I defy you to think of a funny prank. DEFY! They're all horrible, misguided, small, and unfortunate. Like the rest of Ashton Kutcher's legacy. Anyway, she's not dead, you guys. From MTV:

Miley Cyrus has been targeted by another sick internet hacker, who claimed that the Hannah Montana star had died - this is yet another internet hoax and is totally false.

This new sick incident follows the news that the FBI raided the house of a teen hacker who had circulated pictures of the young actress on the internet.

So don't worry, just to clarify Miley Cyrus is NOT dead or hurt even - this is just the work of sad people!

Haha. On the one hand, this whole thing is weird and sad and I only hope that it didn't cause too much stress to our 12-year-old girl readership (i.e. our readership) this weekend, but on the other hand, NEW FAVORITE CATEGORY.
