My Interpretation Of This Man-Dancing-With Bulldozer Act Is "Hilarious"

There's a French guy who got the idea to perform serious public dances with heavy dirt-loading equipment, and if you can watch this without laughing, I salute your dedication to the arts and the ancient and mysterious ways of The Dance:

This performance does look fun to watch, but as a silly fun thing or a parody of how seriously pretentious people can sometimes take art (so. much. restraint.)
"The audience was mesmerized as man and machine twirled and teased in an elegant pas de deux." It's funny because the audience looks less "mesmerized" and more "What the hell is that? This popcorn is yummy." And also, in 2008, it's simply impossible to say the sentence "man and machine twirled and teased in an elegant pas de deux" without anticipating an immediate spit-take.

Too bad she said "Pas de Dieu." Really? Step of God? In the old days, the BBC would fire people for such blatant mispronunciation. Oh wait, it's French. They've always butchered French.

And actually, as modern dance goes, this is pretty good. I'm contrarian!*

*I also hate all modern dance.

This post is a little mean-spirited for Lindsay. I mean, I see how it's sort of ridiculous, but I think that's part of what's interesting about this. This guy took a big, clunky machine that has a pretty limited range of motion and he choreographed a dance around/with it. I'm not into dance, and I don't think I'm a pretentious person. I just think it's really unfair to write this off as bullshit, and insult anybody who doesn't agree along with it.
