The America's Next Best Dance Crew Season 4 Crews Step Up 4 Tha Streets

thumbnail icon: The America's Next Best Dance Crew Season 4 Crews Step Up 4 Tha Streets

Admittedly, I don't watch Randy Jackson Presents America's Next Dance Crew. I am 54 years young, yes, but I am not 54 years that young. I tried to watch it once and it was an episode on, say, Monday night, and they were like "We'll see you back here Wednesday morning and then again on Thursday mid-afternoon." Huh? Too confusing. (One can only imagine how Mario Lopez keeps up.) Nevertheless, I like what RJPANBDC represents: a world view in which problems are not solved with empty rhetoric or violence. Problems are solved with aggressive, athletic dance competitions. You think that you are the toughest? Well you will have to prove that you are the toughest with a group of your friends wearing matching outfits. It is the world view of the Adam/Chu Dance Crew vs. Miley Cyrus YouTube Dance Off, and it is the world view of Footloose. It's almost the world view of the popular West Coast street gang, the Crips, as expressed in their tradition of C-walking. If they could only get rid of all that C-shooting and C-stabbing! It's the world view that sent the JabaWockeeZ to Iraq and ended the war.

Anyway, after the jump, an introduction to the new crews for season 4 of Randy Jackson Presents American's Next Best Dance Crew. I still will probably not be watching the actual show, but I will continue to support what the show represents (not bad!).

AFROBORIKE (Las Vegas, NV) - Comprised of fiery Puerto Ricans and Cubans [Ed. note: eracism], Afroborike is a hot Salsa crew ready to bring their own brand of raw and sexy Latin dancing to America. These dancers are hungry to experience the "American dream" and long to have the freedom of movement they have seen in American music videos [Ed. note: Jesus Christ, seriously? George W. Bush is a copywriter for MTV now?].

ARTISTRY IN MOTION (North Hollywood, CA) - An all-female crew trying to break the stereotype of "bootyshakers," they are strong-minded women who bring their own contemporary and original style called "contemp-hop." Proud feminists [Ed. note: relevant], this all-girl group knows their energy, force and sex appeal make them more than capable to take on and dominate any all-male crew in their way.

BEAT YA FEET KINGS (Washington, D.C.) - This D.C. crew will take the stage with their very own dance style called "Beatin' Ya Feet." [Ed. note: not to be confused with "Stomp™."] Their performances consist of a unique mix of footwork that could make them unstoppable. Although their style is currently only known around the D.C. area, the Kings believe they have created something the rest of the world should see and catch up to. Featured on "It's Showtime at the Apollo" and an MTV inauguration special, they are slowly making their way into the public eye. Combined with their fresh style, this crew also exudes humility and, when they need it most, a hard energy that could make them champions.

FR3SH (Matawan, NJ) - With a unique blend of jazz and funk, Fr3sh infuses a sense of humor into their choreography and compare themselves to the movie "The Breakfast Club," priding themselves on being rowdy and rebellious. Their mix of sarcasm, humor, cockiness and raw talent [Ed. note: their combination of yuck, yuck, yuck, and raw talent] could take them all the way to the top.

WE ARE HEROES (Los Angeles, CA) - This group of effervescent young women came together from New York, Idaho and as far as Japan to fulfill their dreams of dancing in Hollywood. Growing up in all corners of the globe, they were inspired by everything from Fred Astaire to Michael Jackson and have honed their dancing into something they call "Glam Style," which they hope is good enough to crown them the first girl crew to win "ABDC."

MASSIVE MONKEES (Seattle, WA) - This Seattle crew have grinded their way through national and international competition at the highest level over the past five years. They have won a number of prestigious titles including B-boy Summit 2000 and the World B-boy Championships at Wembley Arena in London, England. The Monkees are actively involved in their community, working at local centers with children, coaching child sports and teaching b-boy classes. They even have their own holiday [Ed. note: um, what?], as April 26th was dubbed Seattle's official Massive Monkees Day in 2004. With this much talent and personality, they could be next in the line of b-boy crews to walk away with the $100,000 prize.

RHYTHM CITY (Bronx, NY) - Struggling on the streets of the Bronx with little to no familial support gave Rhythm City no other option than to stick together, and they intend to use their original style from the Bronx - "the birthplace of hip-hop" - as a secret weapon [Ed. note: what's the secret? Isn't using your particular dance style in a dance competition just your "weapon"?]. The crew has placed highly in an array of dance competitions including Invasion, Blazin' the Stage, The Main Event, Switzerland's Dance 2 Dance and, most recently, they won first place at Culture Shock EDC. From living in foster homes to surviving abuse, exposure to life on the streets has taken its toll on each member. As a result, crew leader Alonzo Williams created Rhythm City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to getting kids off the streets and involved in dance.

SOUTHERN MOVEMENT (Nashville, TN) - Urban cowboys that hail from the country music capitol of the world, this crew fuses hard-hitting hip-hop choreography with country line dancing. They pride themselves on being able to hang in the club one night and a country bar the next. Referring to their style as "Hick-Hop," [Ed. note: PRO-TIP: stop referring to your style as "Hick-Hop."] this crew plans to bring something unexpected and their main goal is to change the way America views the South and its residents.

VOGUE EVOLUTION (New York, NY) - The first openly gay crew [Ed. note: !!!!!!!!!!!!] to ever compete on the "ABDC" stage, the five members of Vogue Evolution are out, proud and determined to live their lives the way they want to. Their distinctive "vogue" style of dance mixed with hip hop makes this crew unique, along with working to educate others on AIDS/HIV awareness. They hope to touch everyone watching with their outspoken flare.

It's an 8-way tie for PEACE ON EARTH. I hope you guys are ready!

"their main goal is to change the way America views the South and its residents."

It must be hard to dance with their pants being constantly on fire, and being perpetually hung from a telephone wire. I have no intention of watching this show, but I already know my number one pick to lose.

Thank you for helping with the kind of in depth taxonomy no one wanted nor asked for.

"Crikey, We now have identified at least 45 other douche types, and they have seemed to clump up in dancing pack families."

I saw this show before (ONCE) (ACCIDENTALLY) (I DROPPED THE REMOTE AND THE CHANNEL CHANGED TO THIS AND I COULDN'T CHANGE IT BACK), and I noticed that each dancing segment lasts like 30 seconds, so there was a total of I think 4 minutes of dancing in this one-hour show.

"There is something besides booty shaking, even though we all like to booty shake all the time." Words to live by.

Apparently Washington D.C. is the United States capital of the WORLD. The Beat Ya Feet Kings crew knows things that I don't.

Okay, so I actually like this show. What? A.C. Slater is the host, the judges are total retards, and every week they come so close to having an indoor danceoff in the rain!

What's so yuck, yuck, and yuck about Fr3sh? Is it because they are from New Jersey? Admit it Gabe, you are totally PC from NYC Prep.

Is it just me or was the centerpiece of Vogue Revolution Waldo from Family Matters?

By the by, is voting on comments now confined only to people who are signed in, or is this an anomaly that only I am experiencing? Is this to prevent dictumsesque levels of upvotes?

Goodbye, Vogue Evolution. As a gay hip-hop dancer, I was expecting your crew to be eliminated first, because of the obvious clash between hip-hop culture and gay expression that I have both witnessed and experienced. But now I can be sure that you will be eliminated first, because you are terrible.

I have snarky things to say about every single video, but I tend to forget by the end of the following video. I am overwhelmed with snark!

Love that girl in the third video: "My house just caught on fire, so...."
That is my new opening line for everything.

Also, Artistry in Motion or Beat Ya Feet Kings should win, and if they don't then i'm never watching this show again. (kidding! i'm never watching this show.)
