The Singular Moment That Defines This Era In Pop Culture

thumbnail icon: The Singular Moment That Defines This Era In Pop Culture

Every once in a long while, there is a moment that captures the spirit of an era. Dorothy walking along the Yellow Brick Road. Elvis Presley shaking his hips on the Ed Sullivan Show. Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda sitting on their road hogs. Seinfeld. Jar Jar Binks. These images stand the test of time not only because they resonate throughout the culture, but because they seem to harness something about the time in which they were made. Even when they lack the larger context of their historical moment, it's there, embedded in their chemistry.

And so we come to our moment. A dude called "Macho" with a giant diamond tattooed on his face, unable to speak because he got kicked off a low-rent reality show on basic cable.

IN YOUR FACE, Greatest Generation.

I was planning on just watching and laughing, but Macho's breathless, gasping crying brought back some tough memories of elementary school. For a moment during that video, I was Macho.

Imagine how hard he'll cry when he finds out the diamond on his face is really a cubic zirconia.

This was a big investment to my LOLk. Also, it reminded me of that moment when George Sr. is imitating Oscar begging not to be fired.

It's not really that funny to laugh at someone that's crying. Just saying. You can't poke fun at everything.

What's that supposed to mean? Just because he's a whiny bitch he's suddenly gay? Hooray for homophobia laced comments.

Nope. It just means that I am smart enough to recognize a show that still (yawn!) tries to subscribe to old ideas about gender stereotypes and it also means I can make a joke within the context of the show because I am a funny and creative person that is not on the edge of my seat ready to call people out on their un-politcally correct views in the comment section of Videogum.com. YAAAAAY!

Yes indeed. This generation sucks balls. A thousand years from now people will dig up our ruins and realize how much of a shitty, narcissistic, shallow culture we lived in.
