Random Fandom: The Funny Or Die Guys Make Another Stakeout A Hit

thumbnail: Random Fandom: The Funny Or Die Guys Make Another Stakeout A Hit

In keeping with the internet-fueled trend of choosing some old random pop culture thing and purposely making it a cult hit (see Rick Rolling), some folks at Funny or Die have seized upon the 1993 caper-sequel Another Stakeout as the target of a blitz campaign of IMDB message board posts. Adam McKay sounded the clarion call to ironic action on the Funny or Die blog on Friday:

"For the past few weeks Chris Henchy, Tommy Blacha, Matt Besser, Paul Scheer, Owen Burke and myself have been lighting up the message board on IMDB for Another Stakeout, a completely forgettable so-so sequel starring Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez. There has been a lot of passion, love and sometimes anger in our exchanges...Come join us and help us turn this movie into a giant cult hit for absolutely no good reason."

So far, fans have responded by creating AS desktop wallpaper, expressing a desire to have sex with the AS collector's edition box, and, most creatively, being this "true" AS fan who is outraged at the "Fake Stakes," and seems almost too legitimately nuts.

Show your love for Another Stakeout on the IMDB board (Reg. required, but worth it), and maybe the "rumors" of a Clooney/Soderbergh/Pitt Ocean's Stakeout will come true.
