New Zealand's Insane "Anti-Baby-Swinging" PSA

thumbnail icon: New Zealand's Insane "Anti-Baby-Swinging" PSA

This commercial is billed (on LiveLeak, by a random, but still) as New Zealand's response to a supposed epidemic of baby-swinging (which the random calls "swingsploitation," and which doesn't make sense), after that obviously manipulated and debunked viral video outraged it's way around the world's inboxes. If someone tells you they've seen a more messed up PSA today or possibly ever, they're lying:

Top 6 Reasons This Is Messed Up:

1. Nobody watched that first viral video and said "I think I'll swing a baby around."

2. This PSA is clearly supposed to be about the harmful things people do after binge drinking in general.

3. Whoever made this PSA ingeniously and evil-ly sensationalized it by copying the baby-swinging video, and that is messed up.

4. It's not a baby, it's a kid.

5. He totally throws the kid against the wall!

6. Referencing a viral video, any viral video, in a PSA, results in an unavoidable humorous effect, even if the subject is not meant to be humorous.

If you can judge a people by the PSAs that people's government feels the need to use that people's tax money to make, and I do, New Zealand, you guys, stop getting so drunk! (JK! I'm from Florida for Shaken Baby Syndrome PSA's sake. More like, New Zealand, stop letting them waste your tax money on PSAs that are crazy!)

What next? PSAs with drunk people tossing babies into ceiling fans?

Both videos are horrifying. Fighting fire with a fire, that is what it looks like. Stupid promotion. I think the video ad is from New Zealand, in the end it refers to the site http://hadenough.org.nz

Couple of comments:

1. This is from New Zealand, not Australia. See NZ accents, Maori's, and the NZ website at the end: www.hadenough.co.nz.

2. This is quite obviously not an "anti-baby-swinging" PSA, but a "don't be a d*ckhead when you're drunk" PSA. If the tagline didn't make it clear enough, the website should. The poster is completely missing the point.

3. Looks like they're having a pretty sweet BBQ otherwise :)

Hmmmmm. My Dad picked me up once when he was drunk in an attempt to give a hug. He fell backwards and my face got smashed into a chair.
This is a serious issue.

Interesting view.
The problem is, this particular PSA was designed and aired long before what you refer to as "debunked viral video" started making its rounds.
Also, the "debunkment" part is a little questionable. Apparently, the Australian authorities believe it wasn't altered in any way.
Seriously, though, after this whole swinging baby saga I will never ever listen to anyone who claims to be a video imaging guru and says something is fake, faake, or even FAAAKE.

.nz means it's from New Zealand, not Australia.

I find it rather hysterical. I'd love to see their take on "population control".

Geography Fail. The .nz suffix on the "hadenough.org.nz" is for New Zealand, not Australia.

Where does it say Australia? It says New Zealand four times.

This add has been on New Zealand TV for some time now. It was one of a series of three add to highlight NZ drinking culture. Oddly enough, no-one really complained about this one. There were, however, many complaints about the one where a woman gets so drunk a man is able shepherd her down an alleyway.

We used to do this as kids. But outside! Swinging, not drinking.

I think you will find this commercial is a New Zealand one, targeted and stupid drunken behavior. So best do some more research, before you start slinging shit. cheers.
