Hugh Laurie Does Not Suffer April Fools Gladly

Someone on the House set (presumably the producers) played a prank on the cast last week on April Fool's Day, and put up the video. Hugh Laurie is either staying in character as Dr. House, or is legitimately not amused! I love it:

I kept waiting for him to say "Some of us are trying to work here," but he gets it across completely with his face. Hugh Laurie is the coolest party pooper in the world. (UPDATE: A source from FOX just emailed with "the secret behind Hugh's British smirk" -- he was in on the prank and was pretending not to be. So that explains the acting face! I may have had the reason wrong, but my Hugh Laurie superfan facial recognition brainware FTW.)

This wasn't even apropos of April Fools. Better to have done this on Here's A Bunch Of Crazy Shit Day. June 12th.

Is your saying he wasn't amused part of the April Fool's Day prank? Because that video clearly shows him smiling, laughing, and clapping.

No way, I've watched this three times. His smile is fake, just as anyone's would be who works as hard as Hugh Laurie. Guy works like 20 hour days. (HUGE HL fan here, I'm actually defending his lack of amusement at this not funny prank.)

i've heard from people who work on house that it's a closed set, and that's for a reason - he's not really that nice, and he's INSANE about method acting.
broke my heart.

I don't know who you know, anon, but I was an extra on the set for three days and he was awesome and very polite. Also, he's not method, he's never even studied acting. He is very hard on himself, never thinking he's any good, when he is brilliant, but he's wonderful to everyone else.

He was definitely amused...I used to live in Britain and they tend to be much more reserved in how they express their humor, which can sometimes throw people here off a bit. He quite obviously thought it was funny based on his body language and smile.

What gives? He's smiling, laughing and applauding so how does that translate to "not amused"?

So maybe he was amused at seeing the other people being pranked!!! I say genuine British Amusement! Huzzaw!

I'm guessing few people have seen Laurie's earlier work (Black Adder, A Little Bit Of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster) because before House I knew him as one of the funniest, silliest men alive, who can obviously take a joke. He was in the Cambridge Footlights! And obviously in on the joke.

How can anyone think he's pissed off? he's clearly amused about it and laughing. Are we that desperate for another christian bale freakout that we're making it up?

nothing says unamused like a big smile.

Well, I've watched it 3 times and I can't really decide...I see what you're talking about Lindsay--yes he's smiling, but in that pained way you smile when something that everyone else is hysterically laughing at just annoys the piss out of you. Either way, I couldn't really tell. For the most part this clip just made me realize how little we see any of these actors smile at all... it was kind of refreshing. Anyway, whether or not he was in on it, it's great to see his pearly whites--that man is all kinds of sexy!

Are we really arguing about whether he was amused by a joke? Come on people, the war in Iraq, Darfur, declining economy, growing national debt and unemployment, fundies trying to circumvent the Constitution and the Bill of Rights... and we're arguing about whether a BRILLIANT actor is or is not amused by or in on an April Fools joke? Seriously, we've REALLY got to sort out our priorities here.

Hugh Laurie is awesome, not a methond actor, one of the funniest and lighthearted men in history - think George from Blackadder Goes Forth. He's smiling and clearly amused - particularly when Omar Epps joins in on the whole thing. Disappointed that people think he's a prima donna - he's the furthest thing from it.
