Two Children Were Harmed In The Filming Of This Pro Proposition 8 Video

UGH. I totally recognize that as a parent you want to instill your children with the same moral compass that you yourself use to make sense of the world around you. And I totally recognize that we will never truly become the hateful, backwards country that is a Nightmare On A Hill to the rest of the world if we don't instill a healthy dose of bigotry and intolerance in our youth. But keep that shit to yourself. Using your children as props in a video promoting a bill that would take rights away from other human beings is the ultimate sadness. And I know this isn't really the point, but if you ARE going to use your children as props in a video promoting a bill that would take rights away from other human beings with a cringe-worthy song to sing, AT LEAST MAKE THE SONG MAKE SENSE. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that if Proposition 8 fails your dad isn't going to just become your mom. Unless I'm way off the mark and Proposiiton 8 is intended to stop the California law requiring all California parents to become post-op transgenders, in which case, these kids are right. That would be confusing.

The least they could do would be to make it rhyme
But seriously........this is disgusting. Wrong....awful.
I refer to Louis CK
"How am I going to explain gay marriage to my kids? I don't like explaining things to them! I don't want to have to talk to them! You shouldn't be with the person that you love because....*looks at kid* ehhh"

That changed my vote from "no" to "no"! Thanks, annoying non-rhyming kids!

Everything you said Gabe, and it's also as ineffective as that other Prop 8 ad where we're supposed to listen to that girl in the car who's like "I'm voting yes cuz um...er...just read the Web site, I have no facts to back this up." Sure, a kid might be freaked out by this concept of Dad and Mom switching genitalia or whatever the fuck that's not actually happening, b/c they're CHILDREN and have a waist-high-view overly simplified concept of the world around them. Hell I was strongly anti-abortion up until 13 or so when I was old enough to be filled in on some of the many complicated shades of the issue. This ad just makes me think of people who support Prop 8 as children themselves, completely uninformed and/or simply squicked out by the concept of two dudes. You shouldn't legislate against something just because you think it's "icky"!

i'm starting to think that these videos with kids supporting prop 8 are actually ironic viral schemes against prop 8.... that has to be it...

Don't hate on me cause I'm just stating what I've noticed. Anyway, when driving around SF I've seen several minivans with yes on 8 bumper stickers. 99% of these minivans are driven by Asian families. Just an observation...

I don't recall ever seeing Asians in minivans in all of my life (srsly!). SF must be bananas!

this ad sinks to a new low. they could have at least put some money into it. its just two kids with no clue why they are singing, with two creepy and equally ignorant parents who set it up in their living room and filmed it with the same camera they used to film the kid's dance recital. come on, where's the pizazz?

Does one really NEED to be informed that heterosexual, homophobic parents DON'T have "pizazz"? That fact is and has never been a shocking revelation to me.

this family doesn't realize it yet, but if a gay couple moved in next door they might actually get along beautifully. both families would obviously share the same flare for the performing arts. the little girl, who had a few embarrassing fuck ups, could pick up a few pointers here and there.

I wish that I had waited two more days to watch this because this scares the shit out of me more than any horror movie I could watch would.

I know that wasn't a really funny or witty response, but this kind of stuff just makes me empty inside.

Their newspaper is in Chinese. Seriously. Look towards the very end of the footage. I don't know what it means, but it's true.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it deliciously ironic that "Calvin" has chosen the arena of musical theater as his medium for hatin'?

Saddest: these kids will most likely grow up and out of their parents' world of hate and have this video forever on the internet of them doing something that makes them sick to their stomachs.

The joke's going to be on the parents someday, when one of these kids comes home and says "Guess what, Mom and Dad, I'm in love . . . yes, we're getting in married . . . in Massachusetts where it's legal." People have the right to believe whatever they want, but children who aren't old enough to have an informed opinion on the matter at hand really shouldn't be used as props for sentimental appeals on issues that really have nothing to do with children. (May there be some bumps in the road involved with the normalization of gay marriage? Of course, but that's no reason not to go ahead with the process. Civil rights for women and racial minorities didn't, and couldn't have, come without some backlash, overkill, and sheer nonsense along the way, but that doesn't mean they weren't and aren't worth fighting for.) No one is seriously denying families the right to teach their own children their own values. Funny, I thought that's pretty much what parents were there for in the first place. The issue is whether or not all human beings are entitled to the same LEGAL definition of their committed relationships under the SECULAR laws of the state of California - and I have yet to hear one good reason why they shouldn't be. Even if we assume that gay sex is immoral (which I don't believe it is), plenty of things are legal (and should be) that aren't moral. It's not about "traditional family values," it's about equal rights under the law. Period. And even if the children used in these ads grow up to be as straight as a yardstick, they're still going to want to have . . . rights, you know?
