Meghan McCain Is A Great Person To Be The Best Person The Republicans Have

thumbnail icon: Meghan McCain Is A Great Person To Be The Best Person The Republicans Have

On the one hand, it took a lot of courage for Meghan McCain to go on Bill Maher's show this weekend. She doesn't have the media training or experience or knowledge of who Ronald Reagan is to defend her point of view against these guys. On the other hand, Meghan McCain is, on some level, representing the women of her generation, so it would be nice if she didn't make a wittle pouty face and refer to her blondeness when she got (appropriately) zinged by Paul Begala. The worst part comes at 1:33, when Bill Maher actually "Awww"s her. If Bill Maher "awww"ed me I would just give up:

I guess last month when I said we have to like Meghan McCain now it was just because Stephen Colbert made her look really good. I've got it!: Meghan McCain should start taking political science classes.

When you make Paul Begala look like a comic genius, you need some help.

i don't know about that... he's pretty snarky on cnn.

anywho - meghan mccain is a normal 20-something, kind of ditzy, uninformed, except ... someone let her on television.
and she seems to be one of those creepy people who can't properly interpret tone.

It reminds me of Palin with the whole "Just because I live in Alaska doesn't mean I don't get newspapers" thing. The way to correct our assumption you don't know what you're talking about isn't to tell us there's 'this assumption' you don't know what you're talking about.

Maher is super creepy. And not strange creepy, like "corner you at the bar and won't stop putting his hand on your leg and you were annoyed at first but now you're genuinely concerned for your well being" creepy.

I find it fascinating that I can find myself agreeing with Maher 85 percent of the time and still want to punch him in the spleen with the force of a thousand men. What a smug, self-satisfied, misogynistic bag of UGH.
Also, Meghan McCain needs to stop prancing around her conservatism around liberals. She seems like a level-headed individual who doesn't always tow the party line, but she doesn't need to fool anyone. Conservatives are people too. Sorta. ;)

It seemed like Maher wanted to fuck her. He's kinda a horn dog and I'm sure boning the daughter of the man you spent the entire previous year mocking would be quite the gaffle. She already established earlier in the interview that she puts out and she did seem to have an impressive stimulus package . . . in her shirt.
Thank you, thank you. I'll be at the Zanies in Schaumberg all next week.

I've heard that black clothing is slimming but in Meghan McCain's case I don't think that's entirely accurate. I saw the show on Friday and there was a camera shot of her walking out to the panel and her ass looked fucking humongous.

You know I was willing to take a ride on the Meghan McCain GirlTalk Xpress, but she kind of derailed (too much, or just the right amount?) when it was made abundantly clear that she has nothing to say about economics/policy. It sort of begs the question, how is she such a fervent Republican when she likes gay marriage and sex ed and could give two shits about policy? DOES NOT COMPUTE.

Also, Bill Maher is a total creeper. He hit on my 23 year old roommate at some party and then kept calling her and asking her out. Maybe Meghan just wanted to get out of there before she became the meat in a Paul Begala/Bill Maher sandwich.

I grade Meghan McCain on a curve -- while she is a bit dim, she does not seem hopelessly disturbed or catatonic. I feel like that is all I can hope for from conservatives rights now.

Bill Maher is a douchebag on any metric, though.

Why do people keep putting microphones on her lapel and cameras in her face?? I don't believe she's a Republican, she's never said anything that makes me think that at all. All she talks about are social issues WHICH SHOULD NOT EVEN BE POLITICAL ISSUES ANYWAY and really? Your only criticism of W is that he was "not the best?" Right, because we were all confused over whether he was the the best or not. She just cites conventional moderate-liberal ideologies about issues that are incredibly easy to understand because they only require a moral compass and no political or economic knowledge whatsoever, so when it comes to questions of historical precedent or actual complex sociopolitical points she flounders and throws around middle-school-esque accusations. Sure Paul Begala doesn't "know everthing," but she is not proving that she knows ANYTHING.

Sorry you guys. I guess I have been wanting to say that for a while. Back to True Blood and Keyboard Cat!

It's kind of amusing. Coming here makes me believe that most political discourse among average folks, on either side of the spectrum, is just talking about the "other" side and how stupid/comical they are. I mean, do people really think that everyone with any conservative leanings are some kind of complete idiot, by default? I know plenty of conservatives and plenty of liberals, and the levels of intelligence run the full gamut on both sides. The internet is a giant confirmation-bias machine.

Find a clip of a liberal looking equally uninformed, or uninterested in their party's history or politics, then you can take Lindsay to task. Ms. McCain has absolutely put herself out there to the degree that any shit she gets for this appearance can't be called unfair.

Ha! I love it. No, Rand is a huge black eye on certain branches of conservatism. Kind of like how Marx is to the left. Kind of. I mean, I come from a very mixed-view family. My mom is a conservative artist and my dad is a liberal computer geek. It wasn't so much the arguments, or their respective points that I agree with that I found most beneficial in forming my own world view, it was mostly their admissions of insecurity that I found the most insight in. My father would, at times, seem fairly nervous about the overall liberal movement and say "Then again, we have absolutely no reason to believe any of our ideas could actually work. It may just not line up with reality." On the other hand, my mother would worry "I really just don't see some problems going away in a way that we'd [conservatives] like them to." So I ask, is an idea still cynical if it's true? And what happens when liberals start acting like conservatives from a policy standpoint?

Putting aside her inability to respond to Begala's jibe ("I wasn't born yet" and "You clearly know everything" fail really hard), her point is still a weak one.

Obama is blaming too much on Bush? It's like a doctor prescribing a bunch of chemo for a lung cancer patient, but not telling him to quit smoking. How can we fix problems in this country if we don't know/address/admit what caused them?

I can't join in on the political discourse but I do want to tell the whole online world that I have a crush on Meghan McCain! I know I should be the sensible 2009 male and talk about her political views but I just want to romance her! I put the video on mute and tried to see her shapes!
I am so liberal but I'll never let her know it. We can hold hands at the republican fundraisers, spend Sunday's in our jammies just bloggin' up a storm, and I'll pretend to listen to her father's war story while I'm really picturing myself boning her next to a poster of Ronal Reagan in a cowboy hat! The hills are alive with muuuuuusiiiiic! And I AM IN LOVE!
