Japanese Blackface Obama Magician Almost Makes It Not Worth It

thumbnail icon: Japanese Blackface Obama Magician Almost Makes It Not Worth It

Barack Obama, you guys. So far so good. He throws snowballs and talks about Jessica Simpson AND he makes bold steps towards a logical energy policy and changing the Muslim world's attitude about America. When they talk generically about "the President" on TV I sometimes forget, and then I remember, and it's like "Oh yeah, great!" Remember the inauguration? GOOD TIMES.

And yet somehow this Japanese blackface Obama magician (via BoingBoing) phonetically repeating phrases like "Yes We Can!" to describe his silk scarves trick momentarily takes the shine off of the whole Obama thing. (That's how you describe momentous historical moments accompanied by dramatic nation-wide shared emotional responses: "the whole Obama thing.") Japanese blackface Obama magician can pull :('s out of thin air.

Oh well. It's always, like, you take one step forward and you slip two Japanese blackface Obama magicians back, you know?

this is so ridiculous that I, a black person, can't even consider it racist.

and his blackface is melting - that's gotta be symbolic... or something.

Love how he split the deck and then took the top card from the UPPER HALF of the deck. And though I don't speak Japanese, it seems everyone caught on but then went along with the trick anyway? This magician's talent is so weak, it's no wonder he's relying on the gimmick of blackface.

For the record, most people in Japan love the shit out of Obama. I think he is bigger there right now, than he is in America.

That being said, this video is hilarious.
