Craig Ferguson Speaks Tepid Jokes To Power

Craig Ferguson's keynote address at the White House Correspondents' Dinner Saturday night lacked the teeth of Stephen Colbert's performance two years ago, and wasn't nearly as embarrassing as the famed Karl Rove Does To Hip Hop On Stage What Akon Does To 15-Year-Old-Girls On Stage Fiasco of 2007. All in all it's a safe, gently humorous little speech.

Fair enough. He's got a TV show that no one watches, why not give him a keynote address no one cares about. I do love that brogue, though. It makes me want to take back my freedom and stuff or whatever.

The second half of Ferguson's speech, if you really want more, after the jump.

The Late Late Show with Craig Fergson airs weeknights at 12:35AM on CBS.

Gabe

Are you kidding, he's doing GREAT for himself. But have you ever actually watched his show?

Your comment is your opinion, but check on the factual aspects.
To say that 'no one' watches his show is inaccurate. He beat Conan in the ratings. That's just factual.

The Correspondents Dinner is always a horrible place to gauge the abilities of a comedian. The crowd is all wrong. They don't know how to laugh correctly, or when, or why. There's no feedback loop between them and the comedian. In real life, 90% of Ferguson's act relies on audience interplay -- in this setting, he has no choice but to rely on jokes and punchlines. Other audience-dependent comedians (Eddie Izzard, for example) would have the same problem, despite the fact they're actually the best comedians.
