Councilman Apologizes To Rip Torn For Thinking Rip Torn Looks Like A Sexual Predator

thumbnail icon: Councilman Apologizes To Rip Torn For Thinking Rip Torn Looks Like A Sexual Predator

This AP news story about a City Councilman apologizing to Rip Torn is funny with very little information:

City Councilman Chris Monzel has publicly apologized to Emmy-winning actor Rip Torn for using his mug shot in a campaign ad on crime.

Right? Using Rip Torn's mug shut in a campaign ad on crime is funny. I can't tell you how many letters I've written to my councilman demanding that the streets be cleaned up of all this Rip Torn. But the more you find out, the funnier it gets. For one, the councilman was running for office in Ohio, and the mug shot was taken after a drunk driving arrest in New York, so I'm pretty sure Rip Torn is not a threat to Chris Monzel's constituents. But it's Monzel's detailed apology and explanation that really get the LOLs.

Monzel said the ad was meant to depict a generic criminal and discuss his efforts to "get sexual predators off the streets." He said the ad wasn't meant to have anything to do with the 77-year-old actor.

"It was never my intention to embarrass Mr. Torn. As you can see from the photo, he simply looks like a generic criminal. If someone who looked like Mr. Torn was to walk towards you, you would probably cross to the other side of the street. It's one of the things that make him such a successful and highly-esteemed actor. It was unfair of my office to use his photo to depict a criminal, particularly a sexual predator, just because Mr. Torn looks exactly like what I picture in my mind every time I think about dangerous sexual predators. To the best of my knowledge Rip Torn is not a sexual predator, and I encourage all of the good citizens of Ohio to reject and refute the suggestion that Rip Torn is a sexual predator. It just goes to show that you can't judge a Sexual Predator on looks alone. You might think someone is a sexual predator and it turns out that he's an Emmy Award-winning actor. And then you're the one who looks foolish just because he's the one who looks like he fucks kids. Thank you, and I'm the smartest."
