Operation Watch This: That Mitchell And Webb Look

thumbnail icon: Operation Watch This: That Mitchell And Webb Look

I've been enjoying the sketch comedy show That Mitchell and Webb Look for a few months now (the first and second series are currently airing on BBC America.) You don't have to be a fan of British humor to get most of David Mitchell and Robert Webb's comedy, much of which delightfully makes fun of Americans (or British people's skewed views of Americans). After settling down with a Mitchell and Webb 6-episode marathon last night, I picked out three of my favorite sketches.

What to get the heroin addict in your life for Christmas:

A proper gentleman realizes he's thirsty (okay, that sounds boring, but this sketch is absolutely pitch-perfect genius, and I don't want to give anything away):

The magical green clarinet that makes people sing about their most embarrassing secrets:

That Mitchell and Webb Look airs frequently throughout the week, and is worth setting your DVR for. (It makes especially good late-night viewing. Ahem.)

You use the phrase pitch-perfect a lot.

What, there isn't enough good stuff to watch in AMERICA, Lindsay?

You are a communist.

i caught about 1/3 of Magicians on a plane and liked it a lot. Hadn't tracked down their other stuff, though. Thanks.

Numberwang is one of my favorites. Especially when they advertise the home boardgame.

I think I saw every Numberwang sketch last night, but Numberwang has a curious effect on people with mild OCD: it's impossible to watch it without attempting to CRACK THE CODE.

I was wondering yesterday whether americans would get Mitchell and Webbs humor... Gad that you do at least.

Just please... Please... Please don't do a remake of 'Peep Show'...

Mitchell and Webb are amazing, most definitely among the most innovative of the new British sketch shows, maybe the best in the world. Their Numberwang bits tickle a secret part of my funny bone that really doesn't get enough action. and sir digby chicken caesar is just a okay concept, brilliantly produced. the BBC America channel has been burning through the first season and is about halfway through the second, they're on Fridays at 9:20P, but i read on an industry message board they're going to repeat the whole run again once they're through.
