Is Glenn Beck Bad For America? Asks Time Magazine. Here is a sample quote from the article, taken out of context: "yes."

Stop giving him free publicity. Glenn Beck is a bullshit artist. This is only an act that pays the bills very well. Nothing more, nothing less. From the article: "I believe the only reason we haven't built[the Freedom Tower] isn't because of Americans. It's because we're being held back. And who is holding us back? Politicians. Special-interest groups. Political correctness. You name it — everybody but you." That he is able to say things like this with a straight face is the only thing that separates him from us. And the more you rant and rave about how awful he is, the more people want to listen to him.

Hahaha. Free publicity. Right. Look, I love Videogum more than anybody, but I don't think that's how it works. We don't have that kind of pull around here (here=anywhere). No offense to us (none taken!).

I disagree with this. This seems like a pretty popular Web site, with an active comments section. Not that I'm taking sides with dw's point (although I would), but I do think it's wrong to absolve Videogum posts of responsibility because it's just a silly little blog. We must all do our part, or mother USA will fall.

Gabe, you underestimate yourself. Even if the 125,000 visitors a month were inconsequential, people who visit this site have a life outside of Videogum. What they read here may affect the conversations they have with their friends/family ("Can you believe that Glenn Beck? What an idiot!"), and those conversations lead to more conversations, and next thing you know, people start tuning in to Glenn Beck's show just to piss off a liberal. Domino effect, chaos theory, whatever you want to call it. Remember, Republicans lost just about every last bit of political capital they had over the past three years, but somehow they find themselves steering the discussion on health care in this country. Small minorities can have power. So, yeah, you are contributing to Glenn Beck's continued success.

Dude Glen Beck gets 3 million viewers a day. If you're hoping to keep quiet about him so more people don't catch on, you're way too late.

Somehow I doubt any of the tea partiers or any of the 9/12 protesters, or anyone they know, have any clue what a Videogum is.

A videogum is a little device (encapsulated in chewing gums?) that you chew and eat when you want to have a colonoscopy but dont like tubes in your mouth or your ass.

Your point is well articulated but... I think you're dead wrong. There's plenty to be gained by holding him up as a figure to be ridiculed, to be lambasted, and to openly mock those who, like TIme magazine, failed to do anything other than buff his toes with their tongues.

I think we're on the same page about Glenn Beck being poop, so I got your back there, but I can't get enough of people saying Glenn Beck is a raving lunatic poop monster.

I say the more "free publicity" for GB the better, rational people will be exposed to his thoughts, his performance persona, and his utter batshit insanity.
And rational people, upon seeing more of this fool, will reject him roundly.

Keep fuckin that chicken

To be fair, Time isn't saying Glenn Beck is slowly destroying the very foundation this country stands upon. They're just asking: "What if he is?" And does he have a house full of Honduran sex slaves in his basement? He probably doesn't! But somebody has to ask the tough questions.

I was going to say maybe James E. O'Keefe III could investigate this Honduran sex slave business, but since James E. O'Keefe III sprung fully formed from the head of Glenn Beck, I think that's a conflict of interest?

Is Glenn Beck a drive-by grandma egger? I'm not saying he is... but has anyone come out and said he isn't? He could put this whole thing to rest right now if he REALLY wanted to. If he's not, how are all the nation's grandma's getting egged?
I'm just saying. Someone has to make this an issue. I guess that someone has to be me.

Still no denial from Glenn Beck on whether or not he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990.

oh, man. how did i not know that glenn beck is a MORMON? things: starting to make sense, in the way that it makes sense that he doesn't make any sense because the mormon church also makes no sense.

He's also a recovering alcoholic/dry drunk... not that that would make anyone act out in crazy, repressed, sociopathic, delusional ways. Amiright? This guy knows what I'm talking about.

Have you guys seen this? Glenn Beck gushes over "The Muse", and later a publicist for the band asks him to "retract his endorsement". Hilarious! Who knew Beck was a hardcore Muse fan?

My biggest problem with Glenn Beck is that due to his insanity we make fun of Bill O'Reilly far less nowadays.

that's because he says crazier shit than O'Reilly. The crazier you are, the more attention you're going to get. Unfortunately too much of the attention Beck gets isn't focused on the fact that he should be wearing a straitjacket

I with the writer had buried "duh" somewhere in the article, so we could take that out of context and make it the short answer instead.

Media Matters thinks the article isn't vicious enough (surprise). Joel Achenbach of the Washington Post defends the Time article writer and starts a inter-league squabble with Media Matters. Follow all the action here:
