Community Actually Does Look Fantastic

thumbnail icon: Community Actually Does Look Fantastic

NBC announced today that they're picking up the Joel McHale/Chevy Chase/John Oliver comedy Community, about a sleazy lawyer forced to go back to community college, and they released this new long trailer for it, in which it looks, in a word, hilarious. It actually contains at least one laugh out loud moment! (In an NBC TV show trailer!) And don't miss Derrick Comedy's Donald Glover as Troy. "Let's discuss this creepiness":

The other good news is that Broadcasting And Cable reports that "E! expects Joel McHale to stay on The Soup," which is less than totally reassuring, but fans of The Soup will have noticed a Soup-inside-joke in this trailer ("That means you do my homework, right Seacrest?") If anyone was wondering if Joel McHale would seem weird and out of place acting in a sitcom, the answer seems to be no, at least as long as he's playing an asshole. (Via Andrew Ti's Tumblr.)

the aspergers guy is my celebrity crush! this moves him one step closer to being an actual celebrity and not just "the guy from the cell phone commercial." its only a matter of time before i can get posters of him in tiger beat.

As a community college student, I'll give this trailer my coveted stamp of approval.

Community actually is fantastic. Got my hands on a copy of the screener. Worth mentioning that the pilot was directed by Anthony & Joe Russo, who directed a lot of Arrested Development episodes, including the pilot. And it's written by Sarah Silverman co-creator Dan Harmon.

It would've been interesting to see the revolving door scenario rear itself again (a la "Talk Soup") had McHale left. My vote would have been to promote Mankini.

Actual LOLz for realsies guaranteed!
Also, this trailer makes me feel ok about that asperger's joke I made this weekend.

Yes, but have you seen the other show trailers? MERCY? That show looks worse than Communism. This, however, looks solid. Question: Abed? Looks familiar. For some reason it's not on imdb, so does anybody know?

He is in some commercials - one for a McDonald's snack wrap, I think, and one cell phone commercial where his butt-pressing-on-cell-phone calls his girlfriend.
ugh this has thrown stark daylight on what fills my brain.

It does look awful. I AM a nurse, and medical dramas make me gag. On the plus side, that show does point out that by and large the doctors aren't around, and don't know nearly as mush about the patients, as the nurse. But still, that looks BAD.

He is in the black berry commercial where his girlfriend/wife says to him "Oh look who is calling ....its your Butt. Hi Butt!"

This show seems too smart and full of actual laughs to survive on NBC, I hope I'm proven wrong, because this looks amazing.

This looks great and I will definitely watch. I just hope they tone down the whole inspirational redemption thing. . .that minute of ending music was just baad.

I'm willing to over look the inspirational redemption thing, just like I'm willing to overlook that awful "being a part of something special MAKES you special!" line in the Glee promo.

Good - 3 solid moments of LOLness (Signfield? Zing!), the butt-dialing guy, J McH, John Oliver.
Bad - Emmy Rossum

I'll still watch it, though.

NBC seems to be building up their comedy resume again. Except this time around they have shows that I actually like instead of bullshit like Friends.

It looks good, but I'm still skeptical that Chevy Chase can be connected to anything that is funny anymore.

I like me some tv, but usually only a couple of shows, if that. But seeing this trailer, OMG I LOLed, and geniunely. I felt about it how Gabe felt about Eastbound and Down (I like that show too), that right out of the gate this is a bar-raiser. You have been served, up your game, Step to the Streets, Comedy, Part 2. Yep, it's gonna get cancelled for sure.
