The New Kids On The Block Slunk Back To The Today Show This Morning

thumbnail icon: The New Kids On The Block Slunk Back To The Today Show This Morning

Though this time they just got an in-studio with Kathie Lee and Hoda during the fourth hour instead of an outdoor Plaza event, so at least things seem to be settling down, or "picking up steam, in fact," as Donnie says in the pre-terrible-song interview. I'm putting this up because for some reason, people (incl me) are still fascinated by these guys and how old they've gotten and the fact that they're doing this to themselves. Who writes these awful story-songs that go nowhere?:

I will give them credit for one thing: if a guy's girl was mad at him at 2 am and wouldn't talk to him or wear his favorite boxers, I think he could go a long way towards reconciliation by downloading this song from itunes and blasting it. There is definitely such a thing as laughing too hard to stay mad. So thank you for that gift, NKOTB.

The best part is when they're mumbling before the song. Let's get this?!? Just stop it, NKOTB. You're making it awkward.

Don't hate on NKOTB. The New York City Television Show Musical Performance Sound Mixers Union (Local #f4i1) is conspiring to destroy all of today's hottest musical acts.

Lindsay, which hurts more: watching Donnie Wahlberg here, or watching Donnie Wahlberg in the Saw movies?

This is fascinating. Watching them dance with these looks of total idontwanttobedoingthisness. This is the opposite of singing from your heart.

also, any boy who blared this during a silence mid-fight would absolutely get laid. TAKE NOTE.

Seriously if you don't like them...then don't watch them...there is no need for the stupid offensive remarks.

Painful. Tomorrow's headline: " 'New Kid' Donnie Wahlberg Hangs Self With Shoelace from Vintage Pair of Reebok Pumps ".

No matter what negative comments are posted, you can't deny their talent. These guys are great. They get back together after what, 15 years and still can gather a crowd. Personally, I beleive they are one of the better "boy bands", and I will be a fan forever. They look and sound great still. Only regret I have is only going to two concerts wish I was going on the cruise with them. Can't have it all I guess.

Did he say "da fans"? Da worst. They all look like they're performing at gun point. Like they're all these 30 year old dads who are tired and bored, thinking "God I hate this song, I just want to go home, I've got to mow the lawn this weekend and I want to finish that ship in a bottle I started". And their armed manager is barking orders and whipping them, "You! More wallet chains! Hey, Lead Singer McToneDeaf! Keep buffing that tie, it's not nearly shiny enough! Don't you sass me! Just for that I'm making them turn up your microphone twice as loud as the other guys! AND NO VOCODER! EVERYONE WILL KNOW YOU SUCK!"
That "this weighs on my soul" talk-in at the beginning was not scripted, he was trying to call for help. "Help us America!" he wants to say. " We don't want to dance robotically like your uncle at the back of a night club! We just want to put our sweatpants back on and read the morning paper and take our kids to the park! We CAN'T KEEP DOING THIS! WE'RE NOT EVEN THE COOLEST PEOPLE ON THE TODAY SHOW! END THIS MISERY PARADE!"
That's just what I got out of it, anyway.

Were they always such bad singers? I'm not trying to be funny or mean. I'm serious. They have weak voices and their harmonies are sorely lacking. No offense, NKOTB fans. I love a lot of bands who have lead singers who "can't sing" (Pavement, GBV, The Mountain Goats, etc.). Weak voices just generally don't cut it in the pop world. Bad lyrics, yes, but bad voices, no.
