Huggy, Learny How I Met Your Mother Saved By Guided By Voices Song

thumbnail icon: Huggy, Learny How I Met Your Mother Saved By Guided By Voices Song

Well, we couldn't just have funny, stand-alone episodes forever. That would be like if they just had cannibal monster mother episodes of The X Files forever (awesome.) No, they have to get to the "mythology" of the show's premise and pay the piper mother. Last night's show revealed itself at the end to be a time-shifter fakeout, but saved itself (for me at least) with a Guided By Voices montage at the end.

Contains spoilers, so if you DVR'd the show or plan to watch online, you might want to do that first. This is just for the GBV fans. Also: contains sentimental relationshippy gaggy stuff, but lately the show has been much cooler! Here's a huggy (literally) Ted hugging people to "Glad Girls," by Guided By Voices:

Trivia time:

1. The homeless guy was, of course, Dan Castellaneta, voice of Homer Simpson.

2. Interestingly, the GBV song "I Am A Scientist" was playing the night Ted and Marshall met. Woo-wooooo! Meaningful!

3. Stella is not, or is not definitively, or cannot be without massive 'splaining to do, "The Mother." For more geeky info on why this is so, check out the HIMYM fan blog Have You Met Ted?, where they are very angry at Yahoo! for claiming the mother was revealed last night. Geeks! (JK, it annoyed me too. I am a geek.)

4. Robin was just kidding about being pregnant. Duh.

I honestly thought they were going to reveal the mother last night when they first showed Ted walking around with the yellow umbrella. But then they showed that damn Stella and my head almost exploded from the confusion. I guess they can't reveal Ted's wife so soon anyways because I'm sure it would change the show dramatically.

There's also a theory that Ted won't meet the mother until the very last moment of the last episode, which makes sense. It'll end with a nice "And that's how I met your mother."

Best moment: "I'm sorry, but is there a land bass I don't know about?"

P.S. I don't like Sarah Chalke on this show and her return makes me very angry.

Also, why are her lips blue?

Beautiful musical synergy. The huggy energy matched the stompy fun of "Glad Girls" to a tee.

This show turns into Pirates of the Caribbean every time it delves into its "mythology". What I mean is: When you watch Pirates you're pretty much thinking "Where's Captain Sparrow (NPH)" because nobody gives a shit about Will (Ted).

this is hilarious even though i don't agree. unless, by NPH you mean Jason Segel. then i do agree.

I think that seeing her again will somehow lead him to meet the "mother".

I honestly thought it was going to be a man throughout the episode. Stella has serious knuckles.

Chalky rules, almost as hard as this show rules. Never let me down yet, probably never will.

the "D" Grade in the bagel shop window is hysterical. If only New York actually gave graded health inspection letters for restaurants

And then the sign was placed in the front window so that it formed the first letter in "delicious"!

(nerd alert!)

I bet it's a friend of Stella's. She said (implied) she was at the same club as Ted on St. Patrick's day when they first met, and Future Ted said at some point that "your mother" was also there that night. What are the odds that they were all there unrelatedly? Though, who knows. HIMYM shakes my confidence daily. (GET IT?)

The montage of Marshall's charts and graphs obsession was by far the best part of the episode for me... Especially the "Cecilia" venn diagram.

I'm still waiting for Ted's birthday so we can FINALLY hear the goat story. If I have to wait another season for it so help me there will be hell to pay!

It is possible to make a funny and creative show that doesn't rely on this schlock. Why do fans of this show put up with it?

Do you think the show will end when he meets the mother orrr will they show how the relationship develops?
