Cheap Trick, Adults, Presumably, Singing The Transformers Theme Song

"OPTIMUUUUUUUS!"
--Shia LaBeouf

"BUMBLEBEEEEEEEEEEE!"
--Shia LaBeouf

Oh this movie. With the dancing robots and the over-emoting and the Michael Bay M&Ms and the this song. Are we really doing this? We are? OK.

Don't get me wrong, I "get it." I also used to be a little boy who enjoyed playing with toys and having a rat tail. The powerful draw of nostalgia is not foreign to me. But let's please stop with the games. If we're going to watch an action movie about microwaves that turn into monsters and have an over-earnest 80s stadium anthem version of the cheesy cartoon theme song about robots that wear disguises, let's at least have the decency and the self-honesty to put on our diapers. Because we are babies and we don't ever want to grow up. (Via FilmDrunk.)

According to the research my partner Thompson and I have been conducting over the past 24 hours, it appears that our universe crossed with some sort of other-dimensional videogum. A BIZARRO videogum, if you will, where everything is exactly the same only the opposite. It seems the frequency of Constantinople's comments caused a fracture in the space-time construct which then allowed Bizarro Constantinople (istanbul) to come through the split, perhaps because his frequent over posting on bizarro videogum, crossed with our own Constantinople's. Perhaps, then, Constantinople, you too crossed over into the BIzarro Videogum, aware or not.

It could be possible that there are millions of different worlds out there, constantly intersecting each other at the interwebs--a plane, it seems, where truly anything seems possible. I only shudder to think what strange discoveries await us, both the truly awe-inspiring and the deeply, frightening. You all can sleep well at night knowing Thompson and I will continue diligently to discover what these Other-Worlds mean and what the consequence of this space-time fracture may ultimately be.

That shit was rockin, and different sounding, and subdued rather than BEING FUCKIN IN YO FACE. In other words, everything that goddamned movie wasn't. Which is probably why they replaced it with that LINKIN PARK SHIT AT THE END of that movie.

UGH, as if that movie wasn't bad enough, they ended it with one of the shittiest modern bands ever. Not to get all OLD on people, but how the fuck did we go LED ZEPPLIN, THE WHO-->Linkin Park. SHIT DOES NOT COMPUTE.

So, like, I think the guys who did the original Transformers theme were also adults. At least I don't remember it being sung by a children's choir.

I assume that Cheap Trick were paid for this, and it's not like "Cheap Trick, you mean the guys who did that Transformers song?" is going to replace "Cheap Trick? You mean the guys who did I Want You To Want Me?" any time soon.

It's that Stan Bush cat you should be sorry for. He never gets recognized except by stupendous nerds who can't let go of their childhood. And even most of them couldn't point him out on the street.

I could understand most of our history's greatest atrocities. The Crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, The Holocaust, Hiroshima, 9/11, etc. Not that I sympathize with the motivations, I could understand why the people who committed such atrocities truly believed in their hearts why what they did was right. But the one thing I can never understand, after much soul searching, is why people liked Michael Bay's Transformers. I will never understand this.

Is there something wrong with you Billy? Bringing up completely irrelevant historical events to justify your opinion that Transformers was a bad movie? Millions of lives lost is not equal to a poorly constructed storyline, you silly, silly boy. Let me put it in simple terms then for you:

People like it because it was a summer blockbuster which had very good special effects and was a lot of fun, even if it was dumb.

It's not supposed to be a well constructed argument. It's hyperbole. Just a joke. Relax. But on the merits of it's special effects, there was too much cinema verite, close up bull for me to appreciate the special effects.
