Sorry To Ruin Your Coy Parade, Richard Kelly

thumbnail icon: Sorry To Ruin Your Coy Parade, Richard Kelly

The blogs today are all about director Richard Kelly's denial of any involvement in the sequel to Donnie Darko and his sensual seduction over the soundtrack to his new film, The Box. Says Kelly, "We're starting to work with a very famous band who is honoring us with being the first filmmakers they've ever scored a film with."

OOOH, WHO IS IT?

Pitchfork says it is Arcade Fire. I like the Arcade Fire. I bet that will be a good soundtrack.

But I'm sorry, I still can't believe Hollywood is even letting Richard Kelly make another movie after Southland Tales. I thought Donnie Darko was an overdone student thesis film based on a synopsis of a short story Kelly read in the back of Aren't You Clever magazine, but fine, the kids enjoyed it. But Southland Tales? I'm pretty sure he owes America a letter of apology for that one. He can address it to Citizens Against Richard Kelly c/o Videogum.com, we'll take it from there.

arcade fire aren't that famous...are they?

i've never seen donnie darko, but southland tales seemed like a good movie, at least from what i could tell by reading the back of the dvd case, but i'll watch anything with sarah michelle gellar in it.

All the hate for Southland Tales almost makes me want to see it, just to see what the fuss is about.

I think southland works surprisingly well for having such a ridiculous ensemble cast playing off-type in a film that is 10 times more original than 90 percent of the garbage hollywood produces. I think if Kelly sticks around we'll see some pretty interesting cinema.

ps. if you really are interested in southland tales I highly suggest reading the prequel graphic novels unless you want to complain about not knowing whats going on the whole time.

I also enjoyed Southland Tales. Where else can I hear Sarah Michelle Gellar say "I like to get fucked hard" other than in my fantasies?
