Green Day Provides The Soundtrack For The Punk Rock Nursing Home

New Green Day video for "21 Guns," you guys:

Hey Green Day, cool sonzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I'm not saying that Green Day ever actually embodied any kind of punk ethos beyond what came in a 10$ jar of Manic Panic and an artfully torn Misfits t-shirt from St. Mark's Place, but COME ON. What a snooze! This is even worse than "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is very bad. Did I ever tell you guys about how I was listening to the radio one time right after Hurricane Katrina and they played the "Wake Me Up When September Ends Hurricane Katrina Remix" and it was literally just the regular song but interspersed with interview clips of people talking about how their lives had become nightmares? That was the moment that my life became a nightmare. Listening to that offensive piece of garbage on the radio while making my Trader Joe's burrito was exactly the same as losing everything in the one of the greatest natural disasters in the history of the country.

Besides, I hated this video a lot better 10 years ago when it was a Korn video. It's one thing to be terrible, but at least be terrible in a new way!

On the other hand, if this is an ad for the website Men Who Look Like Old Lesbians, it's perfect.

Sometimes I see that tag progression in the newspaper headlines of my fantasies.
Though, I realize now that the presence of newspapers in my fantasies is probably not a sign of mental health.
Kinda like having a recurring dream where you're counting paper clips. Which i've totally done.

• That poor goldfish was sacrificed for that?! It can't survive in such a small dirty jar! You guys are assholes!

Why does Green Day keep trying to make me hate them even more? Actually, by now it's not even hate anymore. It's just overwhelmingly meh. I hope you had the meh of your life.

When I first heard this song, the minute Billie Joe hit the high notes, I was done. Green Day's never had high notes. What's with this high note shit?!

Solo guitar, empty staring, swoosh fade in, cue more guitars (this time to bring out the angst). Repeat until you suddenly become 31 years old and manager at the local Hot Topic, realizing you wasted your time being meaningful listening to Green Day..

Before I can decide if this is the worst thing I have ever heard, I'm going to need to know how old you are. (How to tell you're old: the children of your HS classmates could be old enough to be posting about how lame their parents are on the internet.)

2 points I would like to make:

1. At 2:58, the guy and girl totally form the cover of this album!

Isn't that like saying the title of your movie in the movie?

2. Immediately after (3:00), the first part of his guitar solo totally rips off the theme song from Full House!

the fourth dude kind of looks as awkward as Rainn Wilson in Rockstar... also, the song is as awkward as the songs from that movie. Like when you went to see it and expected total School of Rock Mayhem and actually got all Jonas Brothers on you

Five whole minutes of that sepia-inspired banality? Wow. And the autotune makes me think they needed the lowest setting to let him hit the high notes.

Worst thing about this is, it'll be all over the radio.

To me, the rhythm sounds the exact same as Neil Young's "Heart of Gold"; sorry Neil. On a side-note: Misfits t-shirts are the official uniform of the vacillating punk fan; however, I once saw a guy with a Misfits tattoo, which is beyond legit (by legit I mean regrettable).

Actually Green Day, a long time ago, were punk. I'm old enough to remember that. This video makes me feel like I might now be my dad, in the way I used to look at him when he would turn the radio WAYYY up when some "good jams" came on.

Elvis vs. Shark

Of course Green Day used to be punk. Gabe just likes to make things he doesn't like into irredeemable monsters. Oh wow, so Green Day have lost their edge after nearly two decades. They're so bad! They've never done anything good! Let me use lots of angry words to take on these titans of terribleness.

Lay off the vitriol for a bit. I mean, if you're going to rage against musical artists, there are literally hundreds of worse contemporary acts you can pick on. I mean, I've never even been that into Green Day, but this entry just was so vindictive and spiteful for no reason.

I'm just surprised you didn't mention Transformers 2 in your rant, 'cause this song is on the soundtrack. That's like, the WORST, isn't it? Woof.
