Woody Allen's New Movie Poster REALLY Lays It All Out There

thumbnail icon: Woody Allen's New Movie Poster REALLY Lays It All Out There

Haha. Whoa! The poster for Woody Allen's new movie, Whatever Works, in which Larry David acts as a stand-in for Woody Allen, and Evan Rachel Wood acts as a cipher for any number of aspects of Woody Allen's bizarre love life, is REALLY laying it all out there. DO YOU WANT THIS MOVIE, OR DON'T YOU? That should be the tagline. "Whatever Works: FUCKING MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY."

I mean, Larry David is already a pretty divisive actor. People either really like him, or really don't like him, there is no real in-between. That is what I meant by using the word divisive, which means that. And the story of an older man marrying a much younger woman as a shadowplay of the very real drama of Woody Allen's actual life over the past 17 years is questionable in its appeal. And Woody Allen films in general are usually limited to his core audience of die hard fans, either being too artsy and "highbrow" to pull in a ton of new viewers, or being too abhorrent for the former fans who can't separate the director's real life from his creative work.

Na-doi.

But then you have his incredible posture. WELL, FUCKING, WHAT? THIS IS IT, THIS IS WHAT YOU GET! Although, I guess it's not that much different than the new Transformers 2 poster in which Optimus Prime is standing in front of a fucking pyramid. "ROBOTS AND PYRAMIDS, YOUR CALL, PAL."

Whatever Works: Take it or Leave it.

Whatever Works: What You See Is What You Get.

Whatever Works: I Hope You're Into This Sort of Thing.

but yea... Woody Allen's definitely narrowing his niche by the minute, I'll give it a shot though. He should probably be aware that he's heading into Ninja Assassins territory.

I think it's actually Woody Allen who can't separate his real life from his creative work. Pass.

I don't think any kind of artist should try to separate his or her personal life with their work. They both inform each other.

This is basically saying "Why phone it in when you can use Larry David to phone it in for you?"

I can't wait to see this - as a Woody Allen and a Larry David superfan. All it's really missing is Susie Essman going:

"Larry David and Woody Allen, you FOUR EYED FUCKS!"

Sadly, this poster could feature Kenny Power's infamous "Dick-on-Toast" piece, and I'm the sort of fool who will still see any Woody Allen movie, JUST IN CASE. I'd almost rather have not found out about it, but what's done is done.

Wow. Larry David and Woody Allen together? Can you imagine what being on THAT set was like? Anyhoo, what I really want to know is, Larry David? Really? He's the lead?

Wait a minute, let me finish.

I enjoy Curb and will not turn from a Seinfeld rerun when it is on as much as the next man, but is America really ready for 90 to 120 minutes of "situational comedy" [I'm assuming] starring Larry David? Just asking.

Seriously, I'm curious.

I'm ready for it and will watch it. But in no way do I need it or have asked for it.

Hate all you want. I think Larry David looks perfect as Joe Biden in this poster.

i beg to differ, for i do not find larry david polarizing; i can very well take him or leave him... and he was "meh" as the temp Beatle.

im not sure about this, i love both of them but this just seems like woody is afraid to be in his own films anymore, i mean, his names not even on the poster! but i think larry david can carry a movie, maybe not a movie for everyone but still...
i think VCB was a fresh start for woody

Larry David > Tina Fey

And by a fucking LONG shot, too.

Thank you, thank you.
