Jim And Pam Got Married! And Thursday Night TV Open Thread!

thumbnail icon: Jim And Pam Got Married! And Thursday Night TV Open Thread!

So, Jim and Pam got married on last night's very special The Office, and I have to say: aww! Up until the actual episode, I really had not cared. I did not visit the Jim and Pam wedding website, I openly mocked any excitement over the Entertainment Weekly cover featuring the "first photos" from the wedding, because of how it is not real, and these are two make-believe characters. But while that's still true, I think it would have been hard to watch last night's climactic wedding/secret wedding scene without smiling. Or at least smizeing. It was funny AND charming, which is what the Olympics call a Dream Team. The person I was watching with actually cried during this scene, and this is not a person who is prone to unprovoked emotional outbursts. They just did a really nice job with this, you have to admit. It's like Cat Power always said, metal heart, you are not worth a thing!

The full Jim and Pam "Forever" wedding dance after the jump, and then we can talk about other shows in the comments, because this is Jim's and Pam's special day.

How pumped are Jill and Kevin right now? The ridiculous thing they did at their silly wedding is a cultural institution, or something. At the very least, this is way better than the Jill and Kevin divorce dance parody video.

Loved the dancing. Jim and Pam's constant self-aware mugging to the camera, not so much.

If you don't like constant self-aware mugging to the camera, then I have no idea how you have stayed with this show up until this point. on a completely unrelated note, Oscar and Kevin's pseudo-vogue made my life complete.

I also laughed out loud during the outro when Kevin was talking about how his Kleenex box shoes were a topic of conversation, but how his "dogs were barking".

I'm surprised you're getting down-voted. I like the show.. I like the show a lot.. and the constant JIM-FACE-IN-YOUR-FACE thing that bothers so many people usually doesn't bother me at all, but when they were dancing down the aisle and kept on cutting to Pam's "reactions" every 3 or 4 seconds we were all sitting there laughing at THAT. "If they show her fucking face ONE MORE TIME" was said about 10 times in my living room. If they had cut just half of those close-ups we could've watched 30 ROCK last night.

I don't see what's wrong with showing how Jim and Pam are reacting to silly/ridiculous things at their own wedding, in the emotional climax of not just the episode about their wedding, but arguably of the entire series. Besides, most of those were legitimate smiles. Like the part near the end where they're all dancing down the aisle in a row and Michael smiles at Jim and then Jim smiles back and then my heart melts.

I'm a wedding photographer. This might come across as someone taking the emotional experience of an internet-stranger way too seriously, but I NEED TO DO THIS. No one decision about your wedding is nearly as important as you and your wife-to-be just being obviously happy. If the florist is like "THE FLOWERZ NEED ATTENTIONZ" say "THEN ATTENT AND LEAVE ME ALONE." (it's been a depressing season...)

I HAVE BEEN GETTING TEARY-EYED OVER THIS FAKE SHIT ALL MORNING.

I think my favorite part was when Jim cut his tie off.

Seriously, though--in the history of sitcom couples, I don't think there's ever been one this good. You stop caring about most of them the second they "do it". I sort of thought Jim and Pam might be the same way, but they have been handled really well. Fake sucks for them that she's fake preggers, though. They could stand some real fake honeymoon phase.

No. This episode of The Office represented everything that has gone wrong with the show. Just imagine back in season one if someone had told you that one day there would be an hour long episode dedicated to Jim and Pam's wedding, and the big payoff would be the dance from some viral video. You would have begged for the show to end before something like that would ever happen.

End the show. Please. Just put it out of its misery.

I agree with Bob, I loved the episode up until the dance part. I know the writers are more clever than just spoofing a viral video. I DID think it was clever to have Pam and Jim get married by a captain at Niagara Falls, truly a nice surprise. The Dance scene was just cheesy and uncreative!

Get ready to downvote. I really thought the office was a thumbs down last night :( im sorry. yes i had a laugh or two. and i did smile, but for an hour long episode about a wedding thats been building for so many seasons thats nothing. the copying of the dance video was just lazy in my opinion. community also sucked. it had a great three episode streak though so i guess it hadda happen sooner or later. i still have faith. its always sunny was a bomb too. their drunk quick talking just got on my nerves. Bracing for downvotes... but glad I'm not the only one that didn't love this. I'm sad to be the mean angry grandma that doesn't go to the wedding (she did end up going right?) but the dancing thing was not charming to me. The wedding dance worked for me for the exact same reason that the Parkour open from the premier worked for me. It's absolutely something that Michael (and Jim's tacky brothers) would do. What might be a tacky pop culture reference in any other show works here because it fits perfectly with the characters, and they change it up to fit the characters so that it is hilarious. Dwight's kick in the face, Kevin with the kleenex-box shoes, Andy with the walker, and Angela just walking down the aisle all killed me.

Honestly, I was scared that they were going to go far too cheesy with this episode, but they didn't, and it was brilliant. The perfect mix of "LOL"s and "AWW"s to me.

I disagree. The wedding party wouldn't do this to Pam and Jim because they knew they would hate it and that it would ruin their wedding day. Jim's brothers are asses, but the rest of the party would have shut down the whole idea. Remember how shocked the maid of honor was that Pam wasn't mad? Yeah. You don't prank someone's wedding ceremony.

Really, when you think about, there's not much more perfect for this episode than an overtly cheesy and dated replay of a YouTube meme.

It was self-aware enough that it didn't come off as just a lazy pop culture reference, and it totally fit with the characters. This is absolutely the sort of joke the brothers/Dwight/Michael would orchestrate.

Plus, it let them be both self-deprecating and sweet at the same time. If they had just gone for the funny, the episode would have been an emotional letdown. If they had just gone for the emotion, it would have been cheesy and lame. This way, you can laugh at the cheesiness of doing this dance, but at the same time, just like the original YouTube video, this is a legitimately sweet and emotional thing to do at a wedding.

Plus, it's a great song. Fuck you, Chris Brown, for ruining such a great song with your douchebaggery.

Right, Jim said as soon as he saw the viral video, he booked the boat tickets because he knew this was going to happen. It would have been bad if Jim and Pam planned to spoof the viral wedding video, but because it was done against their will by the idiots they didn't really want to invite, it was perfect! Seriously the best the show has been in YEARS.
