Jim And Pam Got Married! And Thursday Night TV Open Thread!
![]()
So, Jim and Pam got married on last night's very special The Office, and I have to say: aww! Up until the actual episode, I really had not cared. I did not visit the Jim and Pam wedding website, I openly mocked any excitement over the Entertainment Weekly cover featuring the "first photos" from the wedding, because of how it is not real, and these are two make-believe characters. But while that's still true, I think it would have been hard to watch last night's climactic wedding/secret wedding scene without smiling. Or at least smizeing. It was funny AND charming, which is what the Olympics call a Dream Team. The person I was watching with actually cried during this scene, and this is not a person who is prone to unprovoked emotional outbursts. They just did a really nice job with this, you have to admit. It's like Cat Power always said, metal heart, you are not worth a thing!
The full Jim and Pam "Forever" wedding dance after the jump, and then we can talk about other shows in the comments, because this is Jim's and Pam's special day.
How pumped are Jill and Kevin right now? The ridiculous thing they did at their silly wedding is a cultural institution, or something. At the very least, this is way better than the Jill and Kevin divorce dance parody video.

Loved the dancing. Jim and Pam's constant self-aware mugging to the camera, not so much.
Score = -6
If you don't like constant self-aware mugging to the camera, then I have no idea how you have stayed with this show up until this point. on a completely unrelated note, Oscar and Kevin's pseudo-vogue made my life complete.
Score = 34
I also laughed out loud during the outro when Kevin was talking about how his Kleenex box shoes were a topic of conversation, but how his "dogs were barking".
Score = 5
I like the show. In this particular instance I thought there was 50 percent more mugging than necessary or funny.
Score = 0
I'm surprised you're getting down-voted. I like the show.. I like the show a lot.. and the constant JIM-FACE-IN-YOUR-FACE thing that bothers so many people usually doesn't bother me at all, but when they were dancing down the aisle and kept on cutting to Pam's "reactions" every 3 or 4 seconds we were all sitting there laughing at THAT. "If they show her fucking face ONE MORE TIME" was said about 10 times in my living room. If they had cut just half of those close-ups we could've watched 30 ROCK last night.
Score = 8
I don't see what's wrong with showing how Jim and Pam are reacting to silly/ridiculous things at their own wedding, in the emotional climax of not just the episode about their wedding, but arguably of the entire series. Besides, most of those were legitimate smiles. Like the part near the end where they're all dancing down the aisle in a row and Michael smiles at Jim and then Jim smiles back and then my heart melts.
Score = 10
Does the person you were watching it with also write a pop culture blog? Is his name Blabe Jelaflaye? Weak, Gabe. You can admit that you weep sometimes. Strong men also cry. Strong men also cry!
Score = 70
Strong men do not also cry. What are you even talking about? You have been given some very bad information on what strong men also do.
Score = 23
Are you sure? I think I have it on pretty good authority that they do. (That movie is clearly a documentary and therefore is true to life. Big David Huddleston Lebowski would never lie.)

Dwight had some great moments last night. I couldn't stop laughing at that CD he made for Michael.
Score = 12
This was the only part of the episode I didn't like. It was pretty much exactly the scene from the Hangover when they were getting ready to go out. Same outfit and banter. Otherwise a great episode.
Score = 4
Oh wow, that was so close you guys!!11! Here in the UK, we are totes not this far in the life enriching television experience that is The Office and I saw this post and it was SO MUCH TEMPTATION UP IN MY FACE!!1! And I would have watched it too, but thankfully I cannot view this outside of the US. Wow, I nearly ruined Christmas there. CLOSE CALL!!
Score = 0
It was everything I dreamed and more! Fake congratulations, Pam & Jim! I hadn't laughed out loud at this show in a long time, but then Dwight kicked that girl in the face and all order and balance was restored.
Score = 13
The Office officially has a lot of Best Last Episode Ever pressure on it.
Score = 10
I think Gabe should quote Cat Power more often. She is such a wise soul!

I am getting married in exactly 15 days. My fiancee and I watched this last night in the midst of some insanely stressful last minute wedding plans and wedding crafts. She cried. I laughed. It was good.
touching, huh?

I'm a wedding photographer. This might come across as someone taking the emotional experience of an internet-stranger way too seriously, but I NEED TO DO THIS. No one decision about your wedding is nearly as important as you and your wife-to-be just being obviously happy. If the florist is like "THE FLOWERZ NEED ATTENTIONZ" say "THEN ATTENT AND LEAVE ME ALONE." (it's been a depressing season...)

This episode was much funnier than I thought it would be. And I don't want to give all the credit to Paul Feig, but I think we can give some of the credit to Paul Feig.
Score = 7
I HAVE BEEN GETTING TEARY-EYED OVER THIS FAKE SHIT ALL MORNING.
I think my favorite part was when Jim cut his tie off.
Seriously, though--in the history of sitcom couples, I don't think there's ever been one this good. You stop caring about most of them the second they "do it". I sort of thought Jim and Pam might be the same way, but they have been handled really well. Fake sucks for them that she's fake preggers, though. They could stand some real fake honeymoon phase.
Score = 13
I've never watched a single episode of the Office. Is it like Gen Y Murphy Brown?
Score = 2
Yeah, it was awfully touching, I did not cry, I smiled loads though. Did anyone else think that Parks was brilliant it this week?!
Score = 10
YES, Parks and Recreation has become a really strong show. Good 4 laffs.
Score = 6
yeah, P&R killed it last night.
Score = 4
Agreed, P&R is earning it's second season. Does anyone else hate April? Because I hate April. The concept of a surly teenager to contrast Leslie's perkiness is a good one, but I find there's nothing in the character that interests me.
Score = 4
I hate April. She's so annoying and her voice is awful.
Score = 0
The show felt like it jumped the shark three times over at the start...but then I usually laugh for real a few times too,,,If the new shows aren't anywhere near 30 Rock they at least have 30 Rock caliber people on them...

This sounds so sweet --- way better than what I would have imagined. As a couple, they bore me, but you all have convinced me that I should at least try to catch it on Hulu. Consider it queued!

The whole thing just made me smile. Sometimes it's okay to be happy and not snarky for a little while.

Good to know that I can't remember the last time I cried about Real Life Happenings, but two fictional TV characters can get married and I become a hot mess.

Creed is my favorite. I loved that he was eating his noodles as everyone else was puking and I loved his Michael Jackson moves.

seconded. that fucking killed me.
P&R and commmunity were hilarious also...

Parks & Rec is seriously KILLING IT this season. You can pinpoint the moment it became a good show, and it is when Andy's "I Fell In The Pit" song started playing during last season's finale.
Score = 8
This show has been with me through lots of ups and downs. Fucking right I cried. Actually it was that laugh cry choking thing. But still.
Score = 3
No. This episode of The Office represented everything that has gone wrong with the show. Just imagine back in season one if someone had told you that one day there would be an hour long episode dedicated to Jim and Pam's wedding, and the big payoff would be the dance from some viral video. You would have begged for the show to end before something like that would ever happen.
End the show. Please. Just put it out of its misery.

Sorry you're getting down voted, I completely agree with this. I expected it to be sappy, but it was just embarrassing.

But this morning, fuck it. I will cry! *sniff*

It was a good episode. The only thing that bothered me was the Youtube redo. Like, it was funny and well-done and everything. But a Youtube video? This thing is going to be dated in a month. And this was classic TV catagory!

I agree with Bob, I loved the episode up until the dance part. I know the writers are more clever than just spoofing a viral video. I DID think it was clever to have Pam and Jim get married by a captain at Niagara Falls, truly a nice surprise. The Dance scene was just cheesy and uncreative!
Score = 7
Get ready to downvote. I really thought the office was a thumbs down last night :( im sorry. yes i had a laugh or two. and i did smile, but for an hour long episode about a wedding thats been building for so many seasons thats nothing. the copying of the dance video was just lazy in my opinion. community also sucked. it had a great three episode streak though so i guess it hadda happen sooner or later. i still have faith. its always sunny was a bomb too. their drunk quick talking just got on my nerves. BUT PARKS AND REC GODDAMN, savior of the night.
Score = -1
i agree, that episode was pretty good, though they're obviously in the decline

Bracing for downvotes... but glad I'm not the only one that didn't love this. I'm sad to be the mean angry grandma that doesn't go to the wedding (she did end up going right?) but the dancing thing was not charming to me. Maybe I was just in the mood, or maybe I'm just not that into The Office anymore.
But you know what did make me cry tears of joy? Duke Silver. (Also tears of hilarious laughter, but mostly joy.)
Score = -4
i honestly think that last nights its always sunny was one the best ones i've ever seen, hands down
Score = 3
I think it helps to watch it as drunk as they are on the show. I did and agree with you wholeheartedly.
Score = 4
the part i dont get is that the niagara falls wedding was supposed to be when they ran away and were gone for an hour right? yeah so, it takes one hour to get on the maid of the mist from whatever church they are? get married and get drenched while doing so? and come back dry? and have that dance thing happen?
Score = 3
We need an intervention for that Office ending. I was loving the episode until it went all "Hey, this is a viral video from a while ago. We changed it slightly but it's pretty much just a Family Guy reference as we're not making it much funnier."
Canned wine will be needed.
Score = -1
Isn't it strange to think that if Jill and Kevin had never concieved this idea for their wedding, filmed it, and put it on youtube where it grew incredibly popular, this episode would have ended in a completely different way? e-Ripple iEffect. But yeah, I loved this episode, as well as everything else last night. Nice job TV!
Score = 10
It's turning into bitchgum in here. Some of y'all do realize that the dance scene was supposed to be hacky and stupid, right? I mean, Jim even mentioned he suspected that this would happen with his lame-o, Michael Scott-appreciating brothers.
Aargh, Dwight... take care of the haters.
Score = 30
Damn straight.
Score = -1
I agree wholeheartedly! Last night's episode was the best The Office has been in a couple of years. Who cares if about the youtube dance meme, it was funny, we all know about it, and it was kind of touching how Jim & Pam smiled about it.
Also, more Erin please!
Score = 5
The wedding dance worked for me for the exact same reason that the Parkour open from the premier worked for me. It's absolutely something that Michael (and Jim's tacky brothers) would do. What might be a tacky pop culture reference in any other show works here because it fits perfectly with the characters, and they change it up to fit the characters so that it is hilarious. Dwight's kick in the face, Kevin with the kleenex-box shoes, Andy with the walker, and Angela just walking down the aisle all killed me.
Honestly, I was scared that they were going to go far too cheesy with this episode, but they didn't, and it was brilliant. The perfect mix of "LOL"s and "AWW"s to me.
Score = 14
I disagree. The wedding party wouldn't do this to Pam and Jim because they knew they would hate it and that it would ruin their wedding day. Jim's brothers are asses, but the rest of the party would have shut down the whole idea. Remember how shocked the maid of honor was that Pam wasn't mad? Yeah. You don't prank someone's wedding ceremony.
Score = -4
In real life, maybe, but this is TV. All the characters are way too selfish to care about going against Jim and Pam's wishes. Remember the toast the brothers gave? No one would do that at a real wedding (I hope).
Score = 10
the words spoken by the maid of honor were a time-out for the scene-- the line/delivery was so generic that for a second, i felt like i was watching a corporate video on customer service.
parks and recreation wore the Sexy Hat for appointment tv that night.
Score = 1
I watched it while giving Frank a handy under the table.
Score = 4
Really, when you think about, there's not much more perfect for this episode than an overtly cheesy and dated replay of a YouTube meme.
It was self-aware enough that it didn't come off as just a lazy pop culture reference, and it totally fit with the characters. This is absolutely the sort of joke the brothers/Dwight/Michael would orchestrate.
Plus, it let them be both self-deprecating and sweet at the same time. If they had just gone for the funny, the episode would have been an emotional letdown. If they had just gone for the emotion, it would have been cheesy and lame. This way, you can laugh at the cheesiness of doing this dance, but at the same time, just like the original YouTube video, this is a legitimately sweet and emotional thing to do at a wedding.
Plus, it's a great song. Fuck you, Chris Brown, for ruining such a great song with your douchebaggery.
Score = 11
Right, Jim said as soon as he saw the viral video, he booked the boat tickets because he knew this was going to happen. It would have been bad if Jim and Pam planned to spoof the viral wedding video, but because it was done against their will by the idiots they didn't really want to invite, it was perfect! Seriously the best the show has been in YEARS.
Also Parks and Recreation was so good. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the... whatsitcalled... umm.. the place.. the whiz palace!
Score = 8
Don't you remember the whole point of the show? That there's a camera crew following the workers around? That's why they mug. It makes sense within the concept of the show. Why the cameras are at the wedding is beyond me, though.
Score = 0
Louis C.K. has been a great addition to P&R, his scenes with Amy Poehler have been great and I love his overly pragmatic personality. His date with Leslie even allowed for Rashida Jones to have a great scene. Normally I don't like her, but I Lots of Laffed at their practice date.
