The Mighty Boosh On Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

thumbnail icon: The Mighty Boosh On Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

The Mighty Boosh, aka Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, appeared on Fallon last night. Alright! As you may or may not know, The Mighty Boosh is one of my homework assignments for Videogum Summer School. But so far, I've only been able to watch one episode because I've been cramming for these Mad Men finals.

This week marks their first visit to the United States, so they've been on quite a promotional tear, with a free show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City earlier this week, shopping sprees at Jean Claude Jacquettie, and a press junket that more than one Professional Blogger attended with interview questions in hand. And so I recognize that in this spirit of excitement and open-armed-welcoming it's not encouraged to admit that I am not fully on board yet. Uh oh! (Because it is important to the WORLD that I be on board, you see.) The one episode I have watched so far definitely had some laffs in it, and I'm going to watch more episodes, I promise.

Besides, The Mighty Boosh don't need me anyway. According to this interview (after the jump) they've been doing just fine without me.

They seem like nice guys! (In England, of course, they call guys "lorries.")

I don't know, my old roommate was Obsessed with the Boosh with a capital O so I've seen a lot of them but I never really got into it quite like she or anyone else did....
But it's not like I can't stand them, so maybe I just need to sit down and really watch them to fully appreciate it.
Good thing I'm in Videogum Summer School!

Maybe I need to watch more episodes, but I can't seem to get behind this show. I feel like they try really hard to be both over-the-top whimsical and over-the-top irreverent, and I'm like, "choose one."

Dude, I totally agree. That's the exact same problem I have with The Office. It's like, why are you trying to be both over-the-top clever and over-the-top funny? Just be one, seriously!

Richmond from The IT Crowd? Maybe I'll have to check this show out...

Roy: Whatever happened to Richmond?
Moss: He got scurvy.

i recently got into the boosh and i think they are amazing. i wouldnt say the episodes are consistently hilarious, but there are always many laughs and great creative and absurd moments that i adore. i think it gets better the more you watch it. also, ive found myself strangely attracted to noel fielding, im so not into the glam/goth look but he is so charismatic, i just can't take my eyes off him.

Went to the signing at Other Music, they are all so nice and friendly and a really great group of people.

Gabe, give it a little time. I usually start people off with "Nanageddon" from the second season, I think it's a good starter episode.

Tip of advice: start with season two. Because that's great. I'm still trying to get through the first season, I'll let you know how that went in five to ten years.

Good good good! I'm so glad I read this - an Aussie friend who has nearly identical comedy tastes to my own recommended Mighty Boosh years ago and it's been in my Netflix queue since then. I would have started w/ Season 1, Ep 1 (cus I'm a total bookish nerd like that) and then probably tossed it aside. I fell backwards and you guys caught me, awwww. Group virtual hug.

I am physically incapable of typing smiley faces because I have this affliction where I'm an adult*, so, you know, consider yourself smileyfaced. Virtually.

* This also means I need like sixty words to convey something that could have been said with three characters. Two if you're a 'gummer.

Rape joke of the year?
I don't understand the popularity of the Old Gregg scene, espsecially among people I know who aren't familiar with the show. It's not really a stand alone Youtube clip, and Jimmy Fallon could've picked a better one to show, like this:

I only want what's best for them.

I find Noel to be strangely attractive. Actually its not all that strange I always find men who wear blouses and all black to be attractive.
Here's looking at you Russel Brand.

Basically, The Mighty Boosh is like a children's show that only adults can watch.

It's not always mindblowingly laughlarious but even when the colorful, surreal look of the costumes and set design, the charismatic characters, and the music should be enough to keep you thoroughly entertained.

But then again, Gabe is a humorless, 64 year old man so that may not apply to him.
