The Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Drinking Game

After months of derisive speculation (and a lot of BACKPEDALING), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon premieres tonight (and officially launched their new blog this morning). Jimmy Fallon himself put it pretty well on his Twitter last night:

It's true. After tonight, we will all know what it's like.

Obviously, a show like this can take years to find its footing. Even I recognize that. Even I! Futures will not be determined based on the six minute wrangling of Robert DeNiro's inevitably boring anecdotes ("blah blah blah, New York, blah blah, I'm old"). But obviously we are all curious, aren't we? Aren't we curious, you guys?

So, now we wait. We wait and we watch. We wait and we watch and we drink. After the jump, The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Drinking Game.

You Drink Every Time:

-Jimmy Fallon cracks his trademark "Boy Grin"
-Jimmy Fallon seems in over his head
-Jimmy Fallon runs a hand through or in any other way draws attention to his carefully mussed hair
-Jimmy Fallon references the internet
-Jimmy Fallon surprises you with an actually really funny joke
-You miss Conan

And throw in one drink to Jimmy Fallon's health and success. Look, it's completely possible that NBC has made a terrible mistake. This could really be as bad as everyone, myself included, has feared. But it is also true that Jimmy Fallon has made some pretty impressive hiring choices, with Sara Schaefer heading up the blog, and AD Miles heading up the writers room, not to mention the really talented people working on both of those teams. We can always throw him back under the bus on Tuesday, but despite his many apparent flaws and the potential weaknesses that seem to hang over the show like an awkward, unfunny cloud, Jimmy's doing his best to keep things youthful and relevant and fun.

And I'LL DRINK TO THAT! (Woof. Sorry. At least we can all be thankful that it's not Late Night with Gabe. So worst.)

Nobody laughs at other people failing...do they? That would be so... German.

You have to admit, a consistently-funny Conan leading into a so-so Jimmy Fallon makes for better TV than a god-awful Leno leading into comedy-god-by-comparison Conan.

Either way, I'll still be watching Letterman and letting my Tivo take care of NBC.

Eh, as much as I dislike Jimmy Fallon (I'm a Red Sox fan, he made Fever Pitch and proudly declares himself a bandwagon fan of the Red Sox and Yankees), I don't want him to bomb.

So, Jimmy, here's to hoping you're simply mediocre and can float above the cancellation line.

I don't see the point in wanting him to fail either. Here's hoping people don't call for its cancellation after just a week, or just six weeks, for that matter. Even Conan was canceled when he first started out, NBC reversed it the next day, but still. I'm worried it'll be too "hey, young kids, we're hip to stuff you like!" but we'll see. Looking forward to tonight.

You summarized Fallon pretty succinctly with that drinking game: he's all self-conscious boyish "charm" and giggly desperation and then BOOM he says something legitimately funny. Then it's back to the hair mussing and giggles.

Is there a way the show can succeed so that AD Miles in fact takes over the entire show? Glen Tennis anyone? If AD is head writer I honestly can't see how this show can fail except for whatever everyone says about Jimmy Fa'

The thing about conan is his ability to save dying sketches on the spot with his wit. Jimmy Fallon on the other hand, couldn't ad lib his lunch order. I don't see this working. Sorry earth.

I will do my best not to fall asleep and give him a chance.

We don't want him to fail it's just that he's never been that funny to merit such a break. Where has he been these last couple of years?

All I know it's that those two times he was a guest in Leno and Conan he failed to make me break a smile. His appereance in Leno was a bit sad, actually!

I prefer the rules that a Facebook group uses:
. Drink 1 if Jimmy Fallon laughs at his own jokes.

2. Drink 2 if Jimmy Fallon laughs at the guests jokes.

3. Drink 3 if Jimmy Fallon and his guests are both laughing at their jokes.

4. Everytime an audience member yells out something drink 5!

5. Slam the entire drink if Jimmy Fallon laughs and hits his desk or props.
