The Daily Show's Classy Election Coverage

thumbnail icon: The Daily Show's Classy Election Coverage

The AP reported that Jon Stewart became "the first comedian to announce the election results on live national television." Okay, sure! But even if you chose (like most people, no offense to Jon and Stephen) to get your election news from a non-fake news outlet last night, watching Jon and Stephen's special on DVR later is a treat. After the jump, Jon shows his team the world outside their studio for the first time, and a clip that convinced at least two of my friends that Stephen Colbert cried on air.

The team sees the great outdoors for the first time in years:

Jon announces the winner of the election. Look closely at Stephen. Is he crying?

For those still worried that Jon and Stephen won't have anything to joke about now, don't worry: looks like Ted "series of tubes/bridge to nowhere" Stevens got re-elected. Wooo!

Oh god, I hope that was tears of joy from Real Stephen Colbert, not fake tears of anger from Stephen Colbert the Character. Last night it seemed more character-y, but watching it this morning it seems clear he can't look straight at the camera and is hesitating to speak. Oh, Stephen.

...and btw, some of us were watching Indecision 2008 the whole time because we didn't expect to the election to be called by the time it was over! I certainly didn't. I thought I was going to have an hour of hilarity and then back to paranoid drinking while watching the real news.

I was also watching Indecision 2008, and I found out that Obama had won by the shouts of joy from neighboring apartment buildings. I was a little disappointed that Jon didn't call the election at the same time CNN did...it took quite a few minutes longer.

Obama won and Rob Riggle took his pants off. It was a good episode.

what

If you watch when they come back in after "going outside," both Jon and Steven look like they had a good cry.
