The Creepy "Pretty Woman" Guy Is The Roman Polanski Of YouTube?
Remember this guy?
Goosebumps! I've got goosebumps all over! And I'm vomiting!
Now, we learned months ago that there is no such thing as a free laugh on the Internet. So almost as quickly as we discovered the creepy old man signing "Pretty Woman" on YouTube, we discovered that the creepy old man was on the registered sex offenders list. Yikes. Well, it seemed too good to be true. A creep on the Internet who is somehow not actually a creep? C'mon son!
But now the creepy old man has been placed in jail, in part due to his "Pretty Woman" video.
It's a combination of the video and the whole, you know, being on the registered sex offenders list.
Which is why, at least according to this video, uploaded on Edarem's own account, we need to FREE HIM!
Now, I don't know what Edarem's original offense was, and I'm not in any position to say whether or not he belongs in jail. Just as I believe Edarem does not know who is watching his videos, and is in no position to call people "fans." But I do know this:
YOUTUBE RUINS LIVES.
Shut it down. Shut it all down. (Thanks for the tip, Elaine.)

Here you go, Internet.
You're welcome.

That's so sad! Singing creepy songs on YouTube is not a crime!
Score = 3
Yeah it is, it's a crime on our psyche.
Score = 15
Let's be honest, there are probably a lot of Roman Polanskis of youtube.
Score = 40
As a sex offender he should have been more cognizant of state laws regarding his status. Also, did anyone see that video he posted of one of his dogs sucking on his naked stomach? I'm not saying he belongs in jail, I'm just saying he doesn't not belong in jail.
Score = 56
Dear Judge,
Don't play the 30 rock theme at any point when Mr. Muscare is in the courthouse.
You'll thank me.
yours sincerely,

If what the video says here is correct, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, it sounds like he wasn't technically breaking the rules, but it does seem like he was testing them. The imprisonment could have been avoided had he, maybe, asked if he could get a friend to upload videos for him.
While I feel no particular joy in defending sex offenders, at least those who prey upon children (which wikipedia said edarem did, and we can all trust the validity of wikipedia's claims about a youtube celebrity, right?), I will say that I have sincere reservations about the often too-rigid strictures placed on the movement and expression on offenders who have done their time. This is particularly an issue with my home state of Georgia, where laws have passed that essentially ghettoize anyone with any type of sex offense on their record.
It seems to me that, no matter how creepy he is, edarem should be able to express himself on youtube so long as he isn't hurting anyone. That is more of an opinion about the law than about the case, but there you go.
Score = 12
Hey, buddy--
I somewhat agree with you on the rigidity of restrictions on sex offenders after conviction, because the range of sex offenses is vast, and I think we all agree that looking at kiddie porn, while terrible for its own reasons, is less heinous than molesting an actual child. Anyway, while I do believe that the regulation of sex offenders could be more nuanced and fair in this country, someone who is actually a sex offender like Edarem had to be aware that he was crossing or at least approaching some line of creepiness that would seem like a red flag to some, especially since sex offender lists are made public record. The fact that someone actually looked him up to see if he was a sex offender says something about his videos. So while I don't contest his right to post non-obscene videos on Youtube, I do think that whether or not state laws are appropriate or overly strict where he lives, he should have made it his business to understand them and abide by them.
Score = 6
I don't disagree. In fact, it seems to me he was doing his damnedest to bend the rules as far as he could by way of the technicality that he himself wasn't posting the videos. Also, the state seemed to accept his claim of ignorance of those rules until he decided to test their limits. I'm just saying that I don't like the rule, not that he wasn't asking for trouble.
Score = 2
Absolutely. I think he was definitely asking for trouble. The fact that in this case he is asking youtube watchers to send letters to the judge shows that he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. He knows what he faces in either state, and that he can't argue his case. If this violation really is as murky as he's making it seem in his video appeal, then sure - the subtleties of the sex offender laws in SC and FL need to be re-examined. But, in this case, I don't think it's as gray as Edarem is making it sound.

You're right, and the laws the law and all... but I feel so sad about this whole situation. Back when the whole sex offender thing "broke" (or whatever) it was like bad twist ending, where I had to rewatch the movie knowing what I know. And his videos went from being cute and joyous to me realizing that this guy probably has no human connections beside his youtube account. He responds to almost all his commenters and lives in this compound-like place with three dogs. And as much as we all hate child molesting and regular molesting and all the kinds of molesting I genuinely feel sympathy for this guy who's going to die sad, alone, with the world hating him. And we won't even let hiim use his computer, obviously the last substitute for human friendship.
:(

I totally see where you're coming from, and the whole "how do you come back from that" aspect of sex offenders' lives is what makes me a little bit sympathetic (I don't believe most people are lifelong monsters). But to be honest I never saw Edarem's videos as anything but creepy, even before everyone realized he's a legit creep. Just the pretty woman video alone....Yuck!

For example.. streakers at sports events soon to be charged as sex offenders. Bit much.
Score = 4
Maybe he doesn't belong in jail, but I think belongs somewhere away from pets and small children.

Speaking of Polanski, I am about 95 percent sure I saw him this morning driving past a 7-11 down the road from my house. What is Roman Polanski doing driving an SUV past a 7-11 outside of Washington DC when he should in jail, I hear you asking skeptically. Well, I asked myself the same question. The only logical answer: he's a witch. You heard it here first.

I don't know. Being told not to do something and then doing it anyway is a pretty big no-no, from the way I see it. But then again, sex offenders not being allowed to have computers, even though I realize the ways they can potentially offend, is kind of ass-backwards.
And then I think to myself, we're talking about South Carolina...
