Pauly Shore Is Threatening To Sue Sacha Baron Cohen, Buuuuudy

thumbnail icon: Pauly Shore Is Threatening To Sue Sacha Baron Cohen, Buuuuudy

Pauly Shore might sue Sacha Baron Cohen. From the New York Daily News:

There may be more trouble brewing for Sacha Baron Cohen. Comedian Pauly Shore is the latest person to threaten the "Bruno" star with legal action, claiming that an adopted-baby bit in the upcoming "Bruno" bears a striking resemblance to the trailer and tag line for his 2007 film, "Adopted." Shore tells us he has contacted his attorney and is waiting to take legal action against Baron Cohen...

FilmDrunk explains:

The tagline to which Shore seems to be referring is the "First there was Angelina, then there was Madonna, now there's Pauly!" bit from the Adopted poster. Which is a lot like Brüno's voiceover, "Angelina's got one, Madonna's got one, now Brüno's got one," at 1:30 of the Brüno trailer, which came out a couple months after the Adopted trailer.

After the jump, the transcript from the courtroom:

OFFICIAL COURT RECORDS OF LAW STUFF

01:34:15 JULY 1 2009 2ND CIRCUIT COURT OF CALIFORNIA USA HONORABLE JUDGE MAGOO PRESIDING

JUDGE MAGOO
Approach my legal bench of laws.

DEFENDANT S.B. COHEN AND PLAINTIFF P. SHORE APPROACH BENCH OF JUDGE MAGOO.

JUDGE MAGOO
State the crime!

PAULY SHORE
Your honorable Mr. Judge, it was my idea to make fun of Angelina Jolie and Madonna for adopting black babies in my movie first. He stole it.

JUDGE MAGOO
Wait, you want credit for that?

PAULY SHORE
Yes, I do, supremely honorable Count Judgula whom I respect and to whom I defer using the proper legal terms of the courts of laws. Sustained.

JUDGE MAGOO
You do recognize that this is a pretty lame, pedestrian joke that your mother could have made over brunch. It's actually surprising to me that the plaintiff made this joke considering his tendency to make funny jokes.

SACHA BARON COHEN
Not very niiiiice!

PAULY SHORE
Waah waah waah.

JUDGE MAGOO
Objection! I order you both to go away. I am bored and you've ruined my pants.

JUDGE MAGOO RETIRES TO HIS CHAMBERS AND BEGINS TO DECANT WHISKEY AND LOOK AT A PHOTOGRAPH OF HIS BOAT.

LAW & ORDER MUSIC PLAYS THROUGH SPEAKERS AS IT DOES IN ALL LEGAL COURTS. END TRANSCRIPT.

I'm pretty sure one would need to see a Pauly Shore movie to actually rip off a Pauly Shore movie, so I can guarantee nobody's ripped off a Pauly Shore movie in a least ten years.

Pauly Shore DID invent and copyright the idea of adopting things, so I totally see his case.

The apology is actually meant for lumping regular-and-respectable-if-maybe-slow people in with Cohen and Shore. For what it's worth.

How is Adopted a legitimate Pauly Shore movie when it doesn't appear on Pauly Shore's wikipedia page? Because its pretty obvious there's only one person in the world that updates Pauly Shore's wikpedia page and thats Pauly Shore. Bio-Dome is there. Encino Man is there. Some Snoop Dog movie where he literally plays "Man in Trunk" is there. But this Adopted movie is one he is too ashamed of to take credit for.

That picture of Pauly Shore is really driving me nuts. What does he think he is? A gypsy??

I think he's ripping off Desperately Seeking Susan=era Madonna with those clothes. And so it comes full circle...

hahah Gypsies don't even dress like that anymore. We have lots of gypsies here in Czech Republic. They wear Chicago Bulls jerseys and random American sports t-shirts circa 1997. So maybe their fashion sense isn't great but it's still better than The Weeh Zuhl's.

Related news: the Supreme Court is getting set to hear Shore V. Merchant Ivory. The compliant centers around the scene in which Sir Anthony Hopkins drinks directly from the ICEE machine.
