Hippie-Bearded Hugh Laurie Enjoys An Interview For Once

thumbnail icon: Hippie-Bearded Hugh Laurie Enjoys An Interview For Once

Season 5 of House, M.D has already ended with a bang in the US (spoiler: :(), of course, but it's just starting up in the UK, and Hugh Laurie was on Jonathan Ross's show this weekend to talk about the show, medical mysteries, House's character's basis on Sherlock Holmes, his old comedy partner Stephen Fry's desire to appear on the show as House's older brother, the musical Cats, and, of course, Twitter: "I'm not a Twitter person, I'm more of a 'Shhhhh' person. I've subscribed to the 'Shhhhh' network where you write something down but don't send it anywhere." Unlike in many recent interviews with American talk show hosts, Laurie actually seems to be having fun. Maybe because Jonathan Ross knows better than to say "You're actually not from America, are you?"

Part One:

Part Two: Notice Hugh is asked the old question about how his father was a doctor, but he answers in much more thoughtful depth than on American shows. Because he knows the audience is smarter, probably:

(Spoiler here if you haven't seen the season finale.): Notice how Hugh danced around the beard question, because the Brits haven't seen the Season 5 finale yet and so they don't know that he's growing it to play House in his new role as a patient in a mental institution. :(!

Oh my goodness, was that Eric Cantona in the guest room with him? America is missing out on one of the world's best celebrities.

Jonathan Ross usually has one great guest surrounded by three crappy ones but Friday night's line-up was fantastic and all the guests were on form. Nice to see Hugh Laurie not rolling his eyes every five minutes like he has done on the US chatshow clips I have seen. I also want that paino.

is it true that he is from the UK? It must be difficult to do an American accent.

This show--Friday Night with Jonathan Ross--actually airs in America. Well, it's on BBC-America. So, if you've got fancy cable you can watch it. Which I did. Last night. In America.
